What is a good, cheap idea for a gift for my close friend?
Its my friends birthday very soon and I'm looking for a cheap but priceless and meaningful gift. She isn't very into childish things. I was looking into doing a gift basket but I am NOT INTERESTED IN MOVIE THEMES. By the way, this needs to be quick and easy to get. Also, she is turning 15. Thanks! (a theme for a basket would be great)
--------------------
its not so much of a movie thing, but what about a bunch of cd's from her favorite band. Or maybe like something from her favorite team sport

Any ideas on what business i should take up?
Im 24 this year, female and a been working as a civil engineer since i graduated (11months ago). Im taking of doing my own business, starting small in the beginning and working from there as i need more money to start something bigger. I was thinking of doing online businesses, any ideas? I was thinking of selling wedding favors, or gift baskets or something like that.. Or should i sell clothes online? Please just fill me in with your ideas or advice. Thanks.
--------------------
ok, you should start a business in something you already are interested in, like pick a hobby and make a business out of it, and this way you already know something about that area. if you don't have a hobby, try something that you might have connections for. if you want to sell clothes, you'll have to compete with major clothing stores and that's really difficult. try something more crafty because major companies can't mimic that and wedding favors sounds exciting. make a couple products, try to find a wedding planner and convince them to combine your product with her/his business, this way you have a boost to the start of your business. Entrepreneurship is difficult at first, but worth the reward, so stick through it and don't give up, good luck :D

Are you buying your sitter a gift for Christmas??
If so, what? I need ideas. My sitter, her husband and 2 sons are awesome with my lil man!!! I am so thankful to have found them. What would be a nice gift for them. A gift basket yes, but what kind??
--------------------
Since it is for an entire family and not just one person, I would find something for the family to enjoy. What about ... a board game, cards, for family game night -or- basket with "movie night" treats

Any super ideas for crazy cool Christmas gifts?
So far all I got is adopting everybody a starving kid from Africa- I suggested puppies for everyone but that didn't go over well, you know, the poo and stuff.... I have a reputation to uphold as the best gift giver ever but no time this year (last year was custom hand picked foods from around the world tailored to the individuals tastes in gift baskets, took forever but totally worth it) Something kinda universal but unique would be awesome, any ideas please.
--------------------
Ooh that is an awesome idea and so sweet, with adopting every one a starving child! And it doesn't just have to be from Africa, you know. just saying. You seem so kind a thoughtful x) I have no ideas, I apologize. I'd do the idea you have know, or "adopt" everyone a puppy from the humane society(donate money each month to help a certain puppy). Everyone would get a picture of the puppy, a t-shirt, and a magazine subscription or something like that.(since you couldn't get them real puppies). Merry Christmas :)

It is hard to find grants to start a business. Unlike the myths that some perpetuate, federal government and even private foundations hardly give grant money for a for-profit business. And yes, grants mean PAPERWORK - lots and lots of it, that is why a cottage industry of grant writers was born. Nonetheless, you can go to the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) http://www.cfda.gov and Grants.gov http://www.grants.gov - these are two sites created by the federal government to provide transparency and information on grants. Browse through the listings and see if you can find any grant that would support a for-profit venture. Even SBA does NOT give out grants. From the SBA website http://www.sba.gov/expanding/grants.html "The U.S. Small Business Administration does not offer grants to start or expand small businesses, although it does offer a wide variety of loan programs. (See http://www.sba.gov/financing for more information) While SBA does offer some grant programs, these are generally designed to expand and enhance organizations that provide small business management, technical, or financial assistance. These grants generally support non-profit organizations, intermediary lending institutions, and state and local governments." Here is a listing of federal grants for small businesses. See if there is any available for individuals for starting a business -- THERE'S NONE. http://12.46.245.173/pls/portal30/CATALO Most of the federal grants are given to specific target groups with specific requirements (e.g. minority business owners involved in transportation related contracts emanating from DOT - Grant#20.905 Disadvantaged Business Enterprises Short Term Lending Program Grants are also often given to non profit groups or organizations involved in training or other similar activities (grant 59.043 Women's Business Ownership Assistance that are given to those who will create women's business center that will train women entrepreneurs I suggest you read the following books to get ideas of how to finance your business: Financing Your Small Business http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1 Small Business Financing: How and Where To Get It http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0 Financing the Small Business: A Complete Guide to Obtaining Bank Loans and All Other Types of Financing http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1 The SBA Loan Book http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1 Angel Capital : How to Raise Early-Stage Private Equity Financing http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0 Financing Your Small Business (Barron's Business Library Series) http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0 For private grants, you may want to check the Foundation Center's Foundation Grants for Individuals Online http://gtionline.fdncenter.org . It's a subscription based website ($9.95 per month) but their opening blurb only says that the database is ideal for "students, artists, academic researchers, libraries and financial aid offices." Entrepreneurs are apparently not one of them, so I take it they also don't have listings of private foundations who give grants to would-be entrepreneurs.

My daughter turns 1 in November and I'd like to buy her a great gift. She is very bright, and prefers real world items such as phones, laptops etc. to toys! Any recommendations for very thoughtful gifts? My wife is assembling a wicker basket full of odds and ends she'll enjoy. I'd like to top that!

What are the ways to ally tribes in Spore?
OK, How do I send gift baskets and do the instruments, cause I tried to sing to em and they got tired of me and gave me a 1 score. =P Be detailed about it too!
--------------------
To send gift baskets, click on your cheiftan then click on the Main hut or the food of the tribe your trying to send a gift to, it costs you 15 food. To play the instruments you have to have the creatures with the instruments highlighted with your cheiftan then go to the neighboring tribe which has to be ambivalent to you and click on them with the social interaction and then click the instrument when the crowd requests it.

Must be able to shop buy iv looked online but quite expensive - on a budget as have a baby myself so only have about £50 to spend. Thanks x

Ok my aunt is expecting too so i can relate. if i didn't know the sex of the baby i would use soft neutral colors like green or yellow for the blanket http://www.nursery-rooms.co.uk/images/Wi (sorry i couldn't give you more variety to choose from, this is the only one i found) and dont forget the teddy bears, range them different in sizes and colours http://www.morethanagiftonline.co.uk/sof oh and buy diapers and if you want to you can sew or crotche (sp, pronounced cra-shay) a little pillow for him/her to rest on and to cuddle with, and try to make up a little lulllaby then buy one of those recording gift cards and put the lullaby on it, dont forget about the parents too, to help them save money on baby necessity's buy them at least a 20 dollar gift card for a baby store conveniently close to their home so that the mom doesn't have to drive or walk too long to get there. hope this helps and tell them congrats 4 me.

How much overhead can u save from a home based business?
I am thinking about selling flowers and gift baskets from the home than rent a building somewhere else.
--------------------
You can save quite a bit of overhead, however you will no doubt run into problems with the zoning laws that will probably forbid you from running a commercial establishment in a residential area.

Is it against australian law to sell raffle tickets for the purpose of helping my family?
Im a single mum of 2 young children. I dont make much money and am finding it hard to afford anything beyond general living expenses. I had an idea that i could make up a few gift baskets and sell raffles tickets and use the profits to buy chrissy presents for my kids. I just wanted to make sure that this isnt illegal? Im in South Australia.
--------------------
Chook raffles were pretty common decades ago. A guy would come into a pub with a frozen chook or meat tray and sell tickets to everyone in the pub, pull out the winner give the prize, and do the same thing to the next pub down the road. Another $ idea you may try without disappearing into pubs at night is make stencils to spray paint house numbers on curbs. Good luck and merry christmas

a pack of diapers. you dont even know how handy and helpful its going to be for her to have as many diapers as she can get. this means no running to the store because she ran out early, less money she has to spend on diapers a huge help. heres a few other ideas *pack of diaper wipes *bottle warmer for in the car *bottles brushes to clean bottles *first aid kit (if she doesn't already have one) *changing pad to keep in diaper bag if her diaper bag didn't come with one *diaper bag if she doesnt have one of those packed with the things a mom would put in the diaper bag *formula divider. (its a circular bowl pretty much which lets her put 4 proportions of formula in it without having to take the whole can of formula when she goes somewhere... i found this really helpful) *certificates to small restaurants since she might not be feeling all that up for cooking *boppy pillow replacement cover if shes using one an extra would be nice to keep on hand in case baby spits up on it *baby tylenol or other medications a small baby might need. *lotions, soaps, powders, diaper rash creme... stuff like that *baby gift card to wal mart or somewhere in case there is something last minute she needs that no one thought of... just a few ideas... hopefully you find some use out of the list...

Cooking with Apple Butter?
This Christmas I received a Harry and David gift basket from my uncle. The basket came with goodies, coffees, and a jar of Apple Butter. I tried it on toast and honestly thought it was disgusting. I love apples, applesauce, and butter so I was dissapointed. Does anyone have any great pork or chicken recipes for a picky eater?
--------------------
apple butter carmelized onions minced garlic real butter salt black pepper dash of red wine simmer this all down for about 15-20 minutes. Use as a sauce/dip for pork chops or chicken.

Candle gift with poem for baby shower/bridal shower?
I recently went to bridal shower and the bride to be was given a gift of a huge basket with all these candles in different colors and a poem - the poem explained when and which to light each candle. I've asked the bride and she doesn't want to give up the secret. I heard there is one for a baby shower -- does anyone know either/both?
--------------------
A Basket of Candles For [insert Bride's name] A basket of candles that come in a pair In all different colors, for you two to share The white ones burn first They are wrapped in white lace To celebrate your first married night In your new chosen place. The green pair is taller, and also much thinner Burn with the first company, you have over for dinner. The dark blue candles are for after your first fight Use them to burn while making up all night. Pink candles set the mood and pave the way For your first married Valentine's Day. Now, when your first year of marriage is through The cream anniversary pair, will light for you two. Red candles aflame, both your futures are bright Celebrate promotions you've worked toward with all of your might. By this time we hope, maybe, just maybe You can light the purple ones, on the birth of your baby. And just when you thought you'd put these away Take the light blue ones out-for your fifth anniversary day. Now just one more pair left - for the big 2 5 The anniversary pair that will keep your love alive. Congratulations [insert Bride and Groom's names] On the start of your forever May the two of you always be happy together And burn these candles Just the way we said But please don't forget-blow them out before bed! If I can find the baby shower one I will post it... Hope this helps :0)

How to build an E- commerce website?
I need a website where I can sell my customized/personalized gift baskets. I don't want to sell on Ebay. I want something more classy and sophisticated. I need secure shopping for my customers, yet I want a site I can build for free or atleast really cheap. I have no website developing experience or knowledge so please explain all answers as clearly as possible. I need step by step instructions on how to go about getting started. I also need a web host, domain name site and I need a host that has great server service with minimum down time. Thanks.

If you like to create websites (usually you will end up more than 1 website, I got more than 100 websites in about 6 months' time), go for multiple web hosting services where you could host all your websites in one account. I would like to suggest following webhosting which I use, they are excellent. Easy Christmas Baking That Transports Well?
Hi! I'm not much of a baker, (I'm a great cook though!) so I'm hoping you guys will be able to help. I'm making gift baskets for friends this year, and want to include some homemade baked goods. I'm looking for recipes for treats that taste great, are easy to make (not a bazillion ingredients and complicated processes), and store and transport well (they're going into tin cans, and I have to travel with them). Desserts, cookies and candies are all welcome!
--------------------
How about Christmas Wreaths? It's the same way you make rice crispy treats (only you use corn flakes instead of rice crispies). Then you add a couple of drops of green food coloring in the butter (3 T) / marshmallows (1 package of big marshmallow, 10 oz or 1 package of miniature <-- I find this easier) mixture. Then you mix that mixture into the corn flakes one and stir, covering all the corn flakes with the melted green mixture. Then you grab a ball and make it into the shape of an "o" like a wreath and lay it flat on a waxed cookie sheet pan to cool. Then add 3 red hots in a cluster together on the warm wreath (add it while warm to get them to stick and stay). These are incredibly good and keep well (if in tupperware or wrapped up in cling wrap), plus they look like you worked really hard when all it takes is about 20 minutes. Directions: Melt about 3 T of butter in a sauce pan (preferably non stick) on low heat. Then add in the marshmallows a couple at a time. Melt by using a silicone flat spoon to stir the mixture. (I like to use the miniature marshmallows because they melt faster in less time, so you won't burn the mixture). When this is almost complete, add in 10 drops of green food coloring (this is for the festive part). Then fill a larger bowl with 6 cups of corn flakes. Pour the butter/marshmallow mixture over the corn flakes and keep constantly stirring to cover the entire mixture of corn flakes with the green butter/marshmallow mixture. Cover a cookie sheet pan with wax paper. Take a ball (about the size of your palm) and make the "O" shape, creating a wreath. Lay it flat down on the wax paper. Add 3 Red Hots (type of candy) in a cluster on the wreath, while it's still warm so they can stick and stay. Let cool. Time: 20 minutes. Expenses: $9, if you have butter. Batch makes about 10 wreaths (I believe!) and can keep for a couple of days if sealed in an airtight tupperware (probably a day or so if wrapped in cling wrap). Best of luck - what a great friend you are!!!

Welcome Baskets?
How did you or are you arranging you welcome baskets for the guests who are staying over in a hotel? Did you use a gift bag or a basket? Also besides snacks what did you put in them
--------------------
I'm sorry I am not of much help, but just wanted to say what a cool idea that is. I had not even thought of that! Thanks for giving me agreat idea! That will be especially good for those with young children! Actually I have a couple ideas for you. 1) Coloring books for the kids, crayons, dollar store little toys? If the hotel has a pool and allows toys, beach balls etc. (deflate so could be taken with them). 2) bottled water (especially if the hotel has mini fridges as some like me like a cold drink as soon as they wake up or need it to take meds. 3)brochures of your fave attractions (free from the tourism booth) 4) A bottle of sparkling, non alcoholic champagne with plastice wine glasses (dollar store). 5) Make sure the snacks are nut free (many granola bars etc have nut free varieties). That's all I can think of now. Good luck and best wishes!

Where can I find online, grocery hampers for Christmas?
I am based in Australia, but wish to buy a hamper of groceries for some friends in TX, so preferably online. I don't want a gourmet gift basket of stuff they'll never use, much prefer everyday groceries, similar to the Chrisco ones we have over here :)

Try Safeway ( it is a american store), or Walmart.

Does anyone know if "Private Preserve" works and is safe for preserving wine?????
Okay all wine drinkers out there, my aunt is a big wine freak and i thought this would be a cute add on to a gift basket im making her but is it safe? and is it good? does it work?
--------------------
Save your money. There are numerous wine-related gadgets of dubious use. If your aunt is a big wine-freak and she is going to use this then she'll already have one. The purpose of this device is to keep left-over wine by pumping in inert gases into the bottle to replace oxygen with the aim of stopping the left-over wine going bad. First question is whether your aunt has left over wine that she want to keep. And if she does she'd be better off putting the cork back and putting the bottle in the fridge. I don't know any wine experts who use such a device. So what can you get for a wine -lover? Its difficult because we tend to already have what we want. Some ideas - A bottle of Champagne. No wine lover ever has too much Champagne. Riedel glasses. Riedel make superb wine glasses with many different shapes for each grape variety. And they are very thin and very fragile, so even if you get a glass shape she already has, it won;t matter. You cannot have to many Riedels since they break so often when being washed. They're pronounced 'reedel' and you can buy them on Amazon - see http://www.riedel.com My book of amusing and unusual wine labels :) - http://www.amazon.com/dp/1594740992?tag=

Any cute ideas for a collective bridal shower gift from co-workers?
There are 5 girls and one is getting married (all the guys are getting her something nice from the regestry list) so the girls wanted to put some sort of a basket together. I have no idea what to do~ any suggestions?

Your money will go further if you pool it. Perhaps you could put together a very fancy basket of victoria secret bath and beauty products. Use your cash to put a basket together containing fragrance, oils and powder. It's a classy gift and it's coordinated such that the scents can be layered.
