Purchasing gifts for babyshower?

SO, I have a baby shower this weekend for my hubby's aunt. I am torn between purchasing something off the registry or just getting some useful baby supplies and creating a care basket with things I found useful. In the basket I would include things like, Aquaphor lotion, diaper cream, a colorful baby book, rattle, teether, little things such as that. The registry is full of a lot of fluff gifts except for the more expensive things, which are out of my price range. SO, question, do I suck it up and purchase something something off the registry that is in my price range that I fear will be deemed useless, or is it okay that I create a baby care package gift basket? Do you only purchase off your registry or do you stray to purchasing gifts of your own thinking?

I think the gift basket of things you found useful is a perfect idea. I know that's what I would prefer to get. If this is a first baby for your hubby's aunt, she may well have walked through the store with the registration gun just zapping anything she thought was cute, without knowing if she'd really use it. First-timers (like me) have no experience to draw on. So go with the gift basket. It's a much more thoughtful, personal gift than a random thing off a probably random list.

i think your on the right track. a cute little basket of their favorite color or some thing with,like u said, soap etc. maybe a cute framed pciture of u 2, or movie tickets. candy, a small stuffed animal, new head phones, a burned cd of songs that remind u of her, maybe some bath salts and body spray, and gum! of course not all this stuff but if my friend did just a few things like that for me, id love it!

True or false? Personally i am too nice a person to keep reminding them that most commercial stuff makes me itch or brings me out in a rash. I get probably 2 every year, and they just sit on my shelf, un-opened for years. I think a basket of lotion and body wash is like saying "i didn't put a lot of thought and effort into your gift, so here ya go" We had a white elephant gift exchange at my office christmas party, where you just bring something from home that you don't want to Re-gift. 5 people out of 12 brought one of those lotion baskets. So i think you ALWAYS go wrong by buying a female a beauty gift basket as a gift, unless you know exactly what one they would want.

How to handle this situation with my siblings???

I am the youngest of six kids, with a signifigant gap between the first five and myself. Both of my parents passed away prior to my turning 20, so my brothers and sisters have always been an important part of my life. We are all very close, although admittedly most of the work in keeping the relationship close comes from me since I moved several states away from the family. Recently, I found out my oldest brother (who I am extremely close to) is seriously ill. His wife asked me to contact the other siblings and to let everyone know that for right now, my brother simply is not ready to talk to anyone and wants as little attention drawn to the illness as possible. I called the others and passed along all the info. One of the other siblings took it upon himself to send a gift basket to the ill brother as a way to offer support, even though I made it clear that this was not wanted. He signed my name to the basket. When I found out, I was very upset and worried how my oldest brother

In all honesty, if you have an older sibling who is seriously ill, I wonder why everyone is wasting time and energy arguing over a gift basket. It's done, it's over. Arguing isn't going to change that. Your brother probably didn't want a lot of attention drawn to the illness right now because he's just trying to learn to deal with it himself. Ok. Your brother's wife's wishes should have been respected, but I doubt that a gift basket is the end of the world. Talk to your brother's wife and see how he reacted to it. If it bothered him, you can tell her that it was sent out of love from your other sibling and no harm was meant. If it didn't bother him, then there's been much ado about nothing. Tell her to give your love to your brother and to let you know when you can call or visit.

What recipes do you use to put together your Baked Christmas Goodie Basket?

Every year everyone gives and gets little baked goodies from coworkers and neighbors. I decided this year to make my own little baked gifts. I have a few recipes in mind but I would just like to know what other people put in theirs. I am allergic to all kinds of nuts so please suggest recipes with out them. last year i made some pretty cool baskets i went to the craft store and got tese bowls that were metal and said popcorn on them and i put a box of microwave popcorn,2 boxes of candy such as dots or milk duds, 2 bottels of soda and a gift card to rent some movies or you could buy a dvd to put in it or a hot coco basket, with 2 coffee mugs and some biscotti good luck

Diaper Cake or Cute Basket?

I went out and got some things yesterday for my friends baby shower, like binkies, blankets, onesies, spoons, little things like that. I am planning on getting some more stuff, like a couple outfits and bottles and bibs. I am not sure if I should make a gift basket or a diaper cake though. Some one the things, like the spoons and binkies I dont want to take out of the package. Should I just do the basket or the cake. I am rather creative so thats not a problem. I'd go diaper cake. (But I am prejudiced) The mommy will either use it or let it decorate the nursery.....but I don't think she wouldn't NOT use it because items had been opened, that is insane. Baby items get washed and as long as everything is NEW they will use it. The diapers are opened but they aren't unfolded.....and it isn't like you are going to have filthy hands when you make it!!
