I don't know what to ask for, for CHRISTMAS!?

so, I'm a 13 year old girl. I really like to shop, but I don't want to ask for money or gift cards. I already have a cell phone, a digital camera, a dell laptop and an ipod. I'm asking for a coton de tulear dog and a marc by marc jacobs purse. I know I'm not going to get the dog though. I also dont want any make-up, clothes, books, cd's/ music or anything like room decorations... I hate getting those types of things as gifts. Does anyone have any ideas??? my grandparents like to give out 'gift baskets'. They have taken a large basket, and filled it with things that each person in the family would like. Ex: If I wanted makeupp, they would go to some makeup store such as Ulta, M.A.C. or Sephora, and buy maybe $100's of makeup , put it in the basket, and give it to us christmas eve. If you have any ideas for things that I could ask from them to put in the basket, that would be great!!!!!!! Thank you!!!!!! (p.s. I'm not spoiled, I just have a really really REALLY big family, and have gotten my ipod and cell phone using money I had recived as birthday gifts. So pleasde NO RUDE COMMENTS!!!!) Thanks again *alikat*
--------------------
It sounds like you are really blessed and not as materialistic as lots of teens. If you are sincere in not wanting lots of "things" you might think about asking your family to "adopt" a needy family for Christmas. We did that every year when my girls were growing up. Sometimes we actually shared our Christmas dinner at our home. My girls loved it.

Next Hollywood Story?

With Slumdog winning the best picture, we ask: What would be the next great story to tell? DSCGOURMET.COM gift baskets for all occasions...
--------------------
Since movies about african american, indians, jews and others have been made, I think that they should make a movie about troubled latino teens that live in the slums of south central. By asking questions about there relationship with parents, there social life and if there involved maybe in a gang, perhaps it will help people understand our way of lifestyle and that before judging once again, they should know that not everyone in South Central L.A is the same. Bridal Shower People Canceling!!!?

Friends of ours are getting married and, the woman is having a Bridal Shower 2 weeks from now. The guests on the man's side of the family have decided all, through the man's mother, that they are not coming. They waited until now to say this. They planned on 35, now there will only be 17 or so people showing up. The hall is already booked and of course the dinners/meals etc. Many items of preparation have already been completed, such as gift baskets etc. It was suggested that they no invite these people to the reception and only the wedding. The man has no idea why they aren't coming but we believe they just do not want to drive the 3 hours. There are feelings hurt and money lost throughout this issue. What would you do?
--------------------
Not inviting them to the reception seems petty. They are going to inlaws (hopefully) forever. I would take the high road - try to cancel the dinners. If you can't freeze them- during the wedding week no one will have time to cook. Save the gift baskets for treasured relatives and present them at the wedding.

Where can I buy canning jars in Olympia, Washington?

I have been hither and yon looking for canning jars to no avail. I need half-pint jelly jars to finish my yearly jelly gift baskets. Does anyone know where I can find some? I need 3-4 dozen. Ordering online is not an option because I have berries that need to be canned within the next 2 days. I just moved here from Portland. I used to get them at Bi-Mart or off of Craigslist, but there are no Bi-Marts here, and there aren't any available on craigstlist. Here are the places I have tried, with no luck: Walgreens Rite-Aid Wal-Mart Target Fred Meyers Safeway Albertson's True Value Hardware Ace Hardware Grocery Outlet Olympia Food Co-Op (they had jars but not enough of the right size)
--------------------
When I'm trying to buy things "off-season" some of the best places to look are the old grocery stores where most of the patrons are elderly. Those ladies still can...and they may not have purchased the jars because they still have plenty from last season. If you just need the jars (meaning that you can find the lids at one of the above mentioned stores) you might try asking for them on Freecycle. It is an organization dedicated to keeping things out of landfills. Nothing can be sold here...it can only be given away so the only cost to you, if someone has the jars you're looking for, is gas to get to and from wherever the jars are. Here's the Freecycle website: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Olympia_WA… Good luck!

Can I repair the damages from a rude email?

Our HOA is managed by a smaller local management company. I also serve on our local HOA board with 2 other neighbors. This morning I called our management company about a leak in our building and was totally distracted by this comment. Manager" I was just making out my Christmas List for my properties". Me " what do you mean? " Manager" you know how we sent out David and Harriets gift baskets?" Manager " your hoa president was kind enough to email our management company and stated this" " Dear Management, if you are going to send out Christmas presents this year, please do not send me any fruitcakes and I do not like fruitcake!" Me " I am soo soo soo embarrassed, and ashamed that our president said this! Please do not let this be a reflection on the rest of our board!~" Personally I am mortified that an adult professional woman would send that email to our hired management company! Is there anyway to make sure they understand how apologetic I am for this assss??
--------------------
The president probably thought s/he was being funny or maybe that's how s/he actually felt (notice it said "please do not send ME..." obviously not speaking for the entire board). Not your problem, not your fault. You stated how you felt and it's time to let it go. If you don't make a huge deal of it, they probably won't either.

Lifesaver Storybooks - do they still make them?

Hey everybody. I'm the youngest of my family at 15 (16 in two months). It always used to be a tradition that my brothers (19 and 20 now) and I would get Lifesaver Storybooks in our stockings on Christmas morning. Now this year I'm making gift baskets for my parents and brothers, and thought it would be cool to add something from back when we were younger. But for the past.... oh, 5 years now, I haven't seen them. Why? Have they stopped making them, or do I just need to check somewhere else? Oh and yes, I know they're a seasonal item.
--------------------
I live in Delaware and I still see them every year at WalMart, Happy Harry's (Walgreen's), Rite Aid, CVS - stores like that. Thats really nice of you to make baskets. I hope you find them.

What not to get a woman for Valentine's day?

Hey there people. I made a list of things I personally dislike getting for Valentine's day. I felt clueless guys could use a little hint. Feel free to add to it. What not to get a grown woman for Valentine's day: 1. Those cheap heart shaped chocolate boxes they sell at places like Rite Aid, CVS, or your local supermarket. The chocolates are gross, have too much sugar anyway (acne and weight gain), and make me fat (I'm on a diet. Aren't we always). 2. Lingerie, especially if you don't know my size or if I'm not 100% happy with my body as are most women in America (stretch marks, flab, cellulite). 3. Cheap gift baskets with cheap Chinese made soaps, lotions, body sprays, bath salts, bubble bath, etc. That nasty stuff just makes my skin itch and makes me smell bad. If you're going to get me something to put on my body, make sure it comes from a nice, local business that makes organic products or products that actually will make my skin glow for a change. Something that women's magazines tell me is good for my body or something I can instantly tell is classy. 4. Cheap perfume. Do you see a pattern with the cheap stuff here? I don't want to smell like an old lady that picked up something at a 99 cents store to cover up her body odor. 5. Dinner at a really crowded restaurant when you haven't even made the reservation. Even if you did, I'm not waiting in line for half an hour or longer to get a seat at a place so busy it'll take forever to get the menu to begin ordering the food. And you know Valentine's evening at that one place you've been wanting to take me to will be crowded with hungry couples. 6. A store bought card with a personal note only a sentence or two long written by you and signed at the last minute. I'd rather you wrote me a song or a heart felt letter, and if you can't sing or can't write, at least try to compose a simple rhyming poem. Most kids in elementary school can do at least that. 7. Red roses. Many women may disagree here, but I think wildflowers from your backyard or a bouquet of locally grown, brightly colored flowers will do laborers and the environment more good. Plus, it's unique. However, now that I think about it, there's nothing really wrong with long stemmed red roses. They really are gorgeous. 8. Sex if I'm on my period and have really bad cramps or if for any reason, I'm not up to it. And there are many reasons why women would deny sex to their partners. 9. The latest electronic gadget that you've been wanting to have for yourself. I know you'll borrow it from me anyhow. 10. I really wanted to make a complete list of 10, but can't think of any thing else. Feel free to add to the list of things you don't want for Valentine's day or make a list of things you really do want.
--------------------
li like lingerie and roses : D!! i'm happy with my body and so is my b/f. i agree with the cheap stuff though. for your number 10,it should be: Super cheesy stuffed animals holding hearts. The kind of stuffed animals that are oversized, hot pink and came from a big bin at walmart. gag

I promise you I'm not just trying to get stuff, if you want me to prove it I'll send you the surgery info. and some pics. of my BFF THANK YOU SO MUCH! p.s. if the contest isn't ending until many more days after 14 days that is o.k. too because she will be in the hospital for a couple weeks afterward recovering

Favors before and after the wedding?

We are still working out the details but my fiance and I are having a destination wedding in the fall of next year in the Carribean. Since people are going to be flying in, I thought it would be nice to make welcome gift baskets to give them when they arrive with favor-like things in them (beachy candles, flip flops, beach towelscameras, etc.). If I do this I want to get nice things as they are spending a lot of money to come. So, do I have to give favors at the wedding too? We are going to be casual on the beach and it feels very formal to me. What do you guys think?
--------------------
I think its a great idea! It shows that even in the hectic crazy time you've gone through getting all of this organized you realize that your guests have spent their time and money to share a special time with you and also gives them "permission" to take a little time for themselves to enjoy a mini vacation at the same time. Personally I've never really understood the whole "favors" thing. To me it seems kind of backwards to expect that two people who are just starting a life together have nothing better to do then go around picking out trinkets for people who should really feel honored to be invited in the first place. I'm not talking about the gifts for the people who are actually in the wedding party like the best man or the maid of honor , these people usually help out with the planning and staging and should be recognized for their help. The people who just show up on your wedding day for the ceremony and free food should be there to increase your happiness on your wedding day not see what kind of neat trinket they can make off with.

Easter gifts for my children?

My kids are older 7,8,9. I already made them a basket up. But I'd like to put something special in it for them. I don't want to do the traditional stuffed animal. What are some other idea's for basket gifts, without getting out of control expensive?

What about a religious book or color books referencing what Easter is all about!

Would you be mad if you got this for Valentines Day?

I've been with my boyfriend for 7 years and we have 2 kids together and I'm 40 weeks and 5 days (overdue) with our third. He usually doesn't get me anything for special days, he did get me some flowers last year for mother's day. Like for our anniversary I got him a card with some candy and he didn't get me anything. We live together with his family and this year his sister is making Valentine's Day gift baskets to sell. He will probably just buy one from her or tell her to make me one. I think it's a bad idea and he should put more thought and effort into it than that. I'm going to be induced because I'm overdue and I know EVERYTHING is bothering me at this point. Is it just me or what?
--------------------
Doesn't sound like you have a real man. He can't support his family, moves you into his family's home and doesn't make you his wife. I would be asking for a house and a ring and tell him to stick the flowers and candy up his a$$.

How can I tell my friend that she's being unrealistic?

Me and my friend are both into art and such, and in the past ive done small craft sales to raise money for charity with my other friends so i suggested we could do something like that to raise a bit of money for ourselves (donate half to charity if we make enough) since im saving up for a laptop. So now shes turned it into something much much bigger than i had planned. She wants to make all sorts of different things, most of which i dont think we have the skill for (such as paintings or carvings) or the money for (t-shirt printing) and things that i really dont think people will want to buy. Shes even planning for us to start our own buisness. I dont think either of us are good enough artists yet, to sell our work, and she wants to sell our stuff at a really proffessional craft sale that i dont think we'd even be accepted into. Ive tried explaining this to her, but she wont listen to me. Shes really stubborn and doesnt understand that this isnt the way things work. I tried suggesting we sell some custom dolls or gift baskets online through deviantart (using paypal) or something, where wed probably have better luck. but she wont listen to me. Should I try being more assertive or should I just let her deal with rejection? I cant just say no now, becausen shes already spent a ton of money on supplies and fabric for sewing.
--------------------
Some people are stubborn and have to learn that they're being unrealistic the hard way. If you want to give her another venue for her crafts, etsy.com is a marketplace purely for handicrafts, art, and antiques.

He loves me, He loves me not.... which flower petal is it?

For every holiday I like to give my man something for the holiday we spend together... even St. Patricks Day, Memorial Day ... all of em.. I like make gift baskets and cards. He appreciateds them but not the whole meaning behind it. Things haven't been going so great for me and my guy but I totally love him and he can't seem to see how much i'm doing to prove to him that he is my only love. I'm i doing to much, should i back off, does he even like all that I am doing for him? I (sorta cheated) << hate that kissed two girls behind his back n talked to one guy while we were on a 6 mnth break... he can't get over it and throws it at me everyday.. it's been a yr since and yes everyday he has me going on the same guilt trip while i'm give my best , my all, to make up for everything that happened. he can't do not one thing for me but be there when i'm hurt... i cry alot because it's always in my mind that i'm not good enough, he wont ever think diffrently bout meh, wondering when he's gonna leave... idk i love him and he claims he loves me but really with the bullying and never wanting the love and comfort i do show him... he like moves my hand if i'm about to hold it... he moves his head if i'm about to kiss him... hugs do the trick but should i not try to do anything??? idk my love is true, i just made sum mistakes that i know i can't ever take back. going crazy, dont know what to do?
--------------------
I believe you need to return to singles/dating category. You also need to acquire more love of self. HE is not supposed to be your entire life at this point. Your petal is the second one. ??

Does anyone know any wedding reception games?

I know it's not traditional to play games during the reception, but I am only going to have about 50 people at my wedding, most of which do not know each other. I'm trying to find ways to get people to interact, along with us (bride and groom). The reception is going to be from 3-9 because most of them are not going to see the ceremony, just the reception, I would like to make it fun. I already have a hall that has a bingo system for bingo and we are going to give our flower bouquets as prizes. I also want to do a door raffle for little gift baskets I made. I would like more interactive games and I'm open for suggestions! Thanks in advance!
--------------------
I have been to countless weddings and have yet to see games played at any wedding. However they seem to be the norm in Canada. People don't like forced interactions. They are adults and know how to socialize and what you are planning is actually a turnoff to many people and they will not want to participate no matter how much they love you. What is wrong with just mingling which doesn't take any effort or organization?

What do you think about what happened on Bush's last day in Office?

1. Outgoing President George W. Bush quietly boards his helicopter and leaves for Texas, commenting only: "Today is not about me. Today is a historical day for our nation and people." Eight years ago yesterday: 1. Outgoing President Bill Clinton schedules two separate radio addresses to the nation, and organizes a public farewell speech/ rally in downtown Washington D.C. scheduled to directly c onflict with incoming President Bush's inauguration ceremony. Yesterday: 2. President Bush leaves office without issuing a single Presidential pardon, only granting a commutation of sentence to two former border patrol agents convicted of shooting a convicted drug smuggler. He does not grant any type of clemency to Scooter Libby or any other former political aide, ally, or business partner. Eight years ago yesterda y: 2. President Clinton issues 140 pardons and several commutations of sentence on his final day in office. Included in these are: billionaire financier, convicted tax evader, and leading Democratic campaign contributor Marc Rich; Whitewater scandal figure Susan McDougal; Con gressional Post Office Scandal figure and former Democratic Congressman Dan Rostenkowski; convicted bank fraud, sexual assault and child porn perpetrator and former Democratic Congressman Melvin Reynolds; and convicted drug felon Roger Clinton, the President's half-brother. Yesterday: 3. The Bush daughters leave gift baskets in the White House bedrooms for the Obama daughters, containing flowers, candy, stuffed animals, DVD's and CD's, and heartfelt notes of encouragement and advice for the young girls on how to prepare for their new lives in the White House. Eight years ago Yesterday: 3. Clinton and Gore staffers rip computer w ires and electrical outlets from the White House walls, stuff piles of notebook papers into the White House toilet s, systematically remove the letter "W" from every computer key-pad in the entire White House, and damage several thousand dollars worth of furniture in the White House master bedroom. Headlines On This Date 4 Years Ago: "Republicans spending $42 million on inauguration while troops Die in unarmored Humvees" "Bush extravagance exceeds any reason during tough economic times" "Fat cats get their $42 million inauguration party, Ordinary Americans get the shaft" Headlines Today: "Historic Obama Inauguration will cost only $170 million" "Obama Spends $170 million on inauguration; America Needs A Big Party" "Everyman Obama shows America how to celebrate" "Citibank executives contribute $8 million to Obama Inauguration"
--------------------
I think Former President Bush was happy that it was his last day and that he could wake up in the morning without having to read security briefings, and wonder what was going to happen that he would have to deal with. Now he could enjoy his coffee and not have to worry about keeping his schedule if he wanted to rest or take a walk undisturbed. I think there was a lot of reminiscing with the family and friends about the highlights of the Former President's terms, including the response to actively go after Bin Laden after the attacks of 9/11/2001, when it could have been prevented if Clinton had issued the order on one of the two occasions that Bin Laden had been located and assets were in place to assassinate Bin Laden. And the fact that Iraq was on the road to recovery after 30+ years of oppression and tyranny under Saddam Hussein, and knowing that Saddam Hussein was tried and executed by the very Iraqi's that he had been torturing and killing by the thousands during his reign in power. I think the whole Bush family were glad that they could enjoy life out of the public eye and not have to worry about reporters there to report every minute of their day or what they are having for dinner on the grill on that particular day. Former President Bush, did the best job that he could, under the Democratic House and Senate that opposed every piece of legislation that he submitted to them. I think that he was glad that Obama would be the one who had to step up to the plate and deliver, on the economy when Congress and the Senate, didn't want to bail the companies out and let them fail, sending the country into a deeper recession close to a depression.

Any suggestions on what to do for my caregiver?

I want to do something very special for him, as I know he's been very stressed lately. I call him my caregiver because he's the only one that's been here for me since I found out about the cancer. He's also my best friend and he deserves something wonderful. I would like to buy him something but I just can't think of what. He's a huge Beatles fan but I'm not sure what he has already so I guess that's out. I looked on google for suggestions for caregivers but mainly all I could find were gift baskets, or jewelry for women. I would like to give him a night out even, but I live in VA and he is in NY so that's still hard for me to plan. I'm open to Any suggestions!!! Thank you.
--------------------
I was a long time caregiver, Kiki, and from my personal experience the best things the person I cared for were personal self made things. I would suggest a handwritten letter, with a mix CD of tunes that are dear to both you and him. A pocket watch engraved with thanks or If you can swing the money to give him a night out...call a restaurant or order a gift certificate online sent directly to him. Just a few thoughts, but I'd go personal from you...food comes and goes, but the something you do will touch him more than anything.

Help with resume? Entry-level office assistant?

I am a current college student who has just found a job posting for an office assistant, working for a weekly community newspaper. The job description includes: taking classifieds, processing payments, helping the sales staff and editor and other general office duties. I'm 20 and feel that I am capable of doing all of these things, except that I have no experience working in an office setting. I have had previous jobs, all in the customer service field. Three of them were in retail and one was in food service. I have knowledge in taking orders, both in the previous restaurant position I had and in a retail store (we made gift baskets). I was a cashier so I am used to taking payments and fulfilling cash/credit transactions. I have taken computer courses in high school and college and have pretty good knowledge of most computer programs. How do I highlight these abilities since in my resume? I'm having a hard time filling in the resume template I found because I have no "Professional Achievements," but I have many skills. Is it okay to take the "Professional Achievements" section out? Should I be using a functional resume style as opposed to a chronological one?
--------------------
Since you are entry level and still in school.... use a chronilogical resume listing your previous employers and experience regardless of what they are. This should be the emphasis. Start with objective, then experience, skills, education, etc... Create a separate page for your references that you can give your employers on request. Don't clutter your resume with addresses, names, and phone numbers. Include a brief description of your job duties for each employer. Skills section: List any computer software, operating systems, typing speed, cash handling, point of sale, office machines, etc... that you know how to use. Your retail and customer service experience will be beneficial in an office environment type job. A receptionist is a very good entry level position to obtain, especially for college students. Consider registering with a temp agency to gain some office experience as well if you have the time. Working for a call center might ad some valuable experience as well and they usually will hire students since many call center jobs are part-time and open 24/7. Hope this advice helps. Respectfully, Dale Smithey, Founder BigWorldJobs.com

I am putting my Business online and was wondering whats a good site to use as my website builder?

I make and sale Gift baskets for all occasions. Right now i use Vista Print. However i want to be able to have a shopping cart etc. One that links to my bank account would be great. I want an easy to use web builder. Im looking into shoppe pro. I want to keep my monthly cost around 14 and under. I pay 9 now. If anyone knows of anything and also looking for a site that offers free templates or cheap ones to make my site look great. Thanks so much! Here is my site now. http://basketsoflove.vpweb.com/
--------------------
It sounds like you are looking for some basic web site functions; - Catalog - Price list -Checkout process that takes credit cards & deposits to your bank account Yahoo has a good small business offering. But it's tied to additional services like domain hosting and email as well as the things listed above. By bundling you might get a good deal. There are point products for checkout like Google, which if you have the technical ability, you can integrate into your current site. Another thing to look at is eBay. Given the a la carte nature of the pricing it might be more expensive to use. There are other less well known services out there. And the pricing changes all the time. Some research is probably worthwhile. But be clear-eyed about how much technical expertise you have and the amount of time you want to spend on the geeky part of your business. Good Luck
