My best friend's father just passed away and my family and I were wondering how we could help out. What are the chinese death rituals? I read that is appropriate to give white or yellow chrysanthemums. Is it okay to give them a fruit basket? What else could we give? Do they wear any special colors? White? Black? Please help!

Diaper Cake or Cute Basket?
I went out and got some things yesterday for my friends baby shower, like binkies, blankets, onesies, spoons, little things like that. I am planning on getting some more stuff, like a couple outfits and bottles and bibs. I am not sure if I should make a gift basket or a diaper cake though. Some one the things, like the spoons and binkies I dont want to take out of the package. Should I just do the basket or the cake. I am rather creative so thats not a problem. Does anyone have a good website where I can get directions for the cake? I haven't found a good one yet. Thanks
--------------------
I'd go diaper cake. (But I am prejudiced) The mommy will either use it or let it decorate the nursery.....but I don't think she wouldn't NOT use it because items had been opened, that is insane. Baby items get washed and as long as everything is NEW they will use it. The diapers are opened but they aren't unfolded.....and it isn't like you are going to have filthy hands when you make it!!

What do i get my BF's parents for xmas?
My boyfriend and I have known each other for awhile but recently started a relationship. I've got his Christmas presents covered as well as his daughter, but I wanted some ideas for his parents. I was thinking of a wine gift basket but they're not big drinkers. Any suggestions? She is a stay at home mom (watched my BF's daughter) and his dad works.

Easter Basket Gifts?
Do you have any good ideas for Easter basket gifts for my husband and my 3-month-old son? My husband is a sports guy (golf, football, etc), but we don't have much money right now. I will take any ideas! Thanks in advance!
--------------------
As for the little guy, when my 7 year old was tiny, we put jars of baby food and baby snack items, travel wipes in a summer plastic set (little chair, pail, shovel, etc.) instead of a basket. All things were very useful. As for your husband, I sometimes give my husband breakfast on the run sort of things like granola bars, and some snack items (nuts, crackers) in his basket. Again, all these are very useful. Happy Easter!

Has anyone used or heard of this home based gift business company?
I'm thinking about doing a home based business and just saw the following site. It looks interesting. It doesnt require any inventory or anything. You just do marketing maybe and find customers and they do the rest and you get a percentage, fairly good one it looks like. They offer two business packages including a simple one for only $20/month for a very basic set up or that plus a one time fee of $500 to do your own online store totally set up by them and you can add your own baskets and other items at any time. www.dropshipgourmet.com I'm emailing them to ask for testimonials from their current members or something like that, plus I'm going to try and do a web search or something. I like the idea of doing my own store and all that but if this is a combination of both then maybe it would be better. Thanks, Suzanne

Did a whois check on them and this is there registrant info: Registrant: Gift Baskets Incorporated 82-31 213th Street Hollis Hills, New York 11427 United States I did a generic search on Google and next to no information came up on either company - the site shows up at the top but no other information does. I also did a business license search for both company names at the states licensing site - neither showed up. It sounds like you're doing your own research on it so that's good - sadly I couldn't find anything else out about it for you. Good luck though!

Chinese Auction Anyone?
I need to come up with a unique and different gift basket idea for a chinese auction at my grandson's school. It needs to be something everyone would buy tickets for. Looking to,spend in range of $125.00 or less. Maybe something with gift cards or Lottery tickets but really different.
--------------------
Gift cards could involve just about anything so if you pick a category then the basket could be developed around that for example: -WOMEN'S SHOES (flip flops, slippers, foot cream, pedicure lotion, nail polishes, etc. with gift certificates for women's shoes) -GROCERIES (a gourmet food basket with gift certificates for grocery store in it) -RECREATION TIME (popcorn, candy, games, sodas, gift certificates for bowling, theater, etc.) -SUMMERTIME (beach towels, flip flops, tanning lotion, sunglasses, wrap this all up in a colorful kids innertube and put in well, a gift certificate for something "summery" in your area.. for here it would be a year's worth of beach tags) -PICNIC (get a great looking picnic basket, put in beautiful silverware and dishes for two (buy individually at Marshall's, Ross or TJMaxx.. add gourmet dressing, gourmet choclates, mustard, etc.. you can find it all at TJ's etc.) -BOOK CLUB (join Columbia House book club or Literary Guild and order all books at once (6 books plus the 4 you contract for... buy all the best sellers. Put them all in a basket with gourmet coffee, a beautiful mug, some slippers, some bath oil, an aroma therapy candle). -LOTTERY (go to Toys R Us an get all sorts of games.. try to make them all betting games. Decorate the entire basket with monopoly money pasted everywhere. Put in lottery tickets, money clip, a Suze Ormon Money Book, etc.) -SPA (put in a terry head towel, foot pedicure kit, lotions, a spa robe and a gift certificate to a spa.. kinda typical but the spa robes from Land's End would be great in this). -WINE TASTERS (Ask your local liquor store to pick out some great wines.. a variety.. add in a few different cheeses, brie, roquefort, asiago.. some gourmet crackers etc.) -DIET BASKET (South Beach Diet book and all the South Beach approved treats you can find or Weight Watchers book etc) -ITALIAN BASKET (fill with very cool gourmet dry pasta, gourmet sauces, olive oils, olives, tapenade, cheeses etc. A bottle of Chianti. Line the basket with a red and white) checked table cloth. -GRILLING (fill with gift cert. for Omaha steaks, steak sauce, grilling tools, huge salt and pepper grinders, pot holders, a grilling apron, fantastic marinades)

Has your significant other ever brought you a gift of items he found in a box in the Home Depot parking lot?
My husband came home with a box from the Home Depot parking lot, filled with the following: 1. a 24k gold plated swan planter 2. colorful fruit dessert plate and matching serving plate 3. simple white plate with floral design 4. two small wood and metal baskets for unknown purpose He intends to sell the items at our future garage sale. It's like a Golden Girl came through a time portal and left a 1980s time capsule. Please let me know if you have ever found something.....unusual. Thank you to all who answer. If you lost any of the above items, please let me know. :)
--------------------
You are so lucky! That was a very thoughtful offering .and it wasn't even Valentine's Day. I think those items would fetch a handsome sum at a garage sale. Perhaps you could paint "Thank you for being my friend" on the dishware to increase the perceived value. You could fill the two small baskets with packets of Fancy Ketchup and sell them as gift baskets. I would sell the gold plated swan planter to Cash4Gold, and use that money to fund your dream vacation. I have never hit the Home Depot parking lot jackpot like this, but one time I found a plastic horse head while taking a walk in my neighborhood. I use it when I need to remind people that it would be a mistake to wrong me.

Can you name what cheese this was? White, smooth, used for spread...?
Came in a gift basket with crackers, sausage, etc. it was in a container like cream cheese, looked like cream cheese, no it wasn't cream cheese haha It was solid white, soft, spread like room temperature butter. It wasn't spicy or hot, just mild. Sorry that's all I got any idea what it was? Thank you!
--------------------
Could have been a goat cheese spread they have a mild flavor most of the time unless you get one thats filled with herbs can have a stronger flavor but still mellow enough to be a bit tangy. Or it could have been a cheese spread which could be a combination of cheeses. If you have the packaging the basket came in see if it gives a name for whats all in the basket.

Great gift for new parents?
My sister and brother in law will be having their first baby at the end of this month! we wont be able to visit them when the baby arrives but would like to send a nice/unique gift! what would be something you would have loved to have gotten when your baby arrived?? i was thinking a dean and deluca or harry and david basket...?? we'll spend up to $100..
--------------------
The last thing new parents want is a basket of overpriced food. The most useful gift we ever got after having a baby was crib sheets, burp rags, and clothes. The more you have of those items, the less you have to wash them. When you have a baby you go through sheets/rags/clothes constantly which means you are constantly having to wash them. But if you're wanting to get the parents a gift for themselves, try a gift card to a nice hotel and a promise to babysit when they get around to using it. The other thing parents want after having a baby is time to themselves.
