Is this a good enough gift for someone for christmas when you are on a budget?
A basket of fruit and candy? I can buy the basket and put all of that stuff in it and decorate it up and save money than going ahead and buying one already made up right? Is this an okay gift to give to your mother in law? thanks
--------------------
If you're gonna do a basket for your inlaws, at least personalize it a little. This will show you put some effort into it!

I want to sell my handmade items online...?
Where do I begin? I make handmade baby shower gifts, diaper wreaths, diaper cakes, baby quilts and customized baby gift baskets. I would love to start selling them online. I use Ebay already but I was hoping for a free website so that I can just direct my potential clients to a website. I don't want this to be classified as a "business" it's just something I do for extra money!! Any help will be appreciated!

What do you think of this Christmas gift for my mom?
It's almost Christmas and I still haven't got anything for my mom. But, I thought of something today: a basket full of stuff to spend a day in bed. In the basket I would put: - a blanket - warm socks - a few DVD's - a few TV Show season's - food, snacks - word search puzzle - picture frame - nail polish That's all I can think of at the moment. What else do you think I should put in? Thank YOU! :)

I think what you picked is an excellent idea.

How about a visit to a new place for a long leisurely walk - the woods or a beach? I'd say your dogs will appreciate fresh air, exercise and attention more than cakes or gifts. If its really you who wants the party - that's fine. Go out for dinner with your friend and raise a toast to your dogs, but don't confuse your wants and needs with the dogs. Enjoy.

What can I decorate my beams with?
I have a candle & gift shop in a listed grade 2 building. The ceiling is quite low & has beautiful oak beams in it. I have decorated around the edges with dried hops, a few bunches of lavender, some old fashioned lanterns, wicker baskets hanging up etc, but the middle of the ceiling still looks a bit bare (even though the beams are lovely!). Has anyone got any ideas for decorating the middle beams? With the ceiling being quite low it can't be anything that hangs down too much & I want to keep with the traditional theme of the building & not stray too far off track from it being a candle & gift shop.
--------------------
Personally, I'd leave them bare! I find that if I walk into a shop that has things all over the ceiling, and in the corners, and all over the walls and shelves, I don't know where to start looking. It can feel a little claustrophobic and I usually don't buy anything. You want to make sure people can see your gifts, and are not too distracted by other things in the room. If you want to avoid the effect of everything being around the circumference of your shop, is there any way you could move some of your candles and gifts into the centre of the room? If you really want to decorate them though, I'd go for something which can be fixed directly onto the beams, like horseshoes, plates, stars, or even mini spice-rack style shelves with small ornaments on them. Another idea is to buy some pretty ceramic or metal letters which you can use to spell out the name of your shop or any other phrases such as 'mind your head' or 'welcome', etc. I actually like that last idea the most! I hope this helps :-) xx Emmie

need a name for my business?
Im setting up a gift basket business, but i just cant think of a name for it! I do all sorts of baskets - but my main target market is the Asian consumer, as i make baskets for Asian festivals such as Eid, Diwali etc. Perhaps an asian word could be used? But i just dont know what. I wanted something around the word 'celebration' but 'celebration gift baskets' just doesn't sound catchy enough. Any ideas / suggestions would be appreciated. 10 points for the best answer. Thanks everyone

Gift for Peace Corps volunteer?
My very best friend is going to be going to Africa for the next two years as part of the peace corps. Our core group of girlfriends and I are wanting to make her a basket or all pitch in and get her a nice gift. But, we want them to things she can use while over there, or things that wouldn't get damaged but would remind her that we love her. Suggestions?
--------------------
You also might consider mailing this gift to her at her training site instead of having her pack it in her luggage. If she is like most of the people in my training group, she will be heavily loaded down already. The external hard drive someone else mentioned is a must if she does not have it! Also, if you do mail packages, peanut butter in any form is huge if it is not available where she will serve. Other than that, pictures, music, maybe a photo album showing off her and all of her friends and family would be useful when integrating into the local community. Postcards showing different scenes from home are also good, as well as stickers. Also, a lot of us end up teaching English as part of our service, so a good cd with teaching ideas/games/ lesson plans would be nice. Internet access is not always guaranteed (especially in Africa), and having this resource available would probably really help her in her service.

What ideas can you give to me for a pollyanna?
So, my family is doing something different this year ~ we're doing a Chinese Pollyanna which everyone brings 1 gift for a certain amt. ~ puts em' all on the table and then we pick #'s, etc. My problem is I ran out of ideas. I decided to do somewhat of a Basket of Cheer. I have to make sure that it's a unisex gift. I want to buy a basket and put a bunch of stuff in it ~ for example, I so far have ~~ crossword book, sudoko book, frame, chapstick, fleece blanket, playing cards, air wick plug-in, air wick refill, pocket tissues, 2 candles ~~~ that's what I picked up so far. I also was thinking of picking up either a pair of movie tix or gift card to blockbuster or both but not sure yet. Also had in mind of alcohol minis ~ most of these people drink. I was thinking of putting bags of candy in there, word search book, box of assorted teas, and a mug. But I'm lost after that ~ would anyone be able to help me??? Thanks for reading & maybe helping!!!

Wow! Can I be in your family? I don't know what your spending limit is, but you have already thought of a lot of stuff I'd be happy to get, especially the puzzle books. (Perhaps a specialty puzzle book, like Logic Puzzles? That's what I love!) Also, are you in a state where they sell Lottery tickets? If so, put a couple of those in (maybe $5.00 worth). SOMEbody's gotta win every once in awhile! I did that for work one year. The people that actually won a prize REALLY enjoyed getting the ticket. Also, you mentioned a pair of movie tickets or gift cards to Blockbuster (or both). That's good, unless you happen to know what specific movie would be most popular, and in that case, you could buy it so it would be a permanent gift. (Again, I don't know your spending limit.) How about a mail sorter? One of those wire or wooden slotted things that someone could keep their monthly bills in (rather than thrown somewhere on top of a table). That went over big one year at work. Maybe other people will have other ideas to add. All-in-all, sounds like it's going to be a great Christmas with your family this year! Hope you get something great!

Creative way to wrap a bowl?
Getting a bowl and putting a bunch of goodies with it. Should I just make the bowl a "gift basket" and put a bunch of stuff in it then tie celophane or should I wrap everything seperately? Any creative ideas? Something different than the ordinary?
--------------------
That sounds like a perfect gift. I would keep it as simple as possible so it wont take away from the pretty bowl. I would add some shredded colored tissue paper to the bottom so the bowl wont scratch and it gives it a nice presentation and then just like you said - put a bunch of stuff in it then tie celophane, maybe add a card. Anything more would be overkill!

What gift should I buy for my sister's baby shower? She's having a girl; please read the details. Thanks!?
I've already gotten her quite a few things, and I have a couple ideas for a last gift but I'm not sure if I should get her anything else (I don't want to get too much, if that's possible! lol), or which idea I should use. Here is what I've already gotten: A swing A robe (for the baby) Diaper rash cream Disposable spoons Heat sensitive spoons A teething feeder Gas drops Bowls Nighttime washcloths Regular washcloths A book And I'm paying for half of her shower My ideas are: - A gift certificate for the baby to have her photos taken - A lot of little things that people forget (the gas drops, nail clippers, Orajel, more diaper rash cream, etc.) - Or, they have a two story house, so I'm thinking of making two baskets that have everyday things in them (bottles, diapers, creams, formula, bibs, etc.) so they can have one upstairs and one downstairs so that she doesn't have to run up and down the stairs all day. Do you think I should get her another gift? If so, which of my ideas do you think would be best? Thank you so much!
--------------------
It sounds like you've done more than plenty, but I can understand wanting to buy more. I was pregnant when I attended 2 different baby showers and still managed to go overboard! I really like the gift certificate idea. Those first pictures are some of the most precious. You could also get her something like a gift card to somewhere with a list of commonly forgot items, that way if someone did get her a year's supply of diaper rash cream, you aren't just adding to that. You'd be suprised at how easy it is to get too much of one thing and none of another. The basket idea is also very cute and very creative, but you might be better off just buying the baskets and helping her assemble them herself. That way she can just fill them with things she got at the shower and you can help her purchase missing items. That way again, she doesn't have too much of one thing and not enough of another. Good luck and congrats on the upcoming neice!

A good parting gift for my brother?
He's leaving for Iraq....I want to make him a goody basket that he can take with him. He's 25 and an officer in the Army, what do you think would be helpful to him?
--------------------
like every one else he will be taking pretty much what he can carry with him so would keep the "goody basket" down to the bare minimum is you can, maybe a nice photo album with pictures of all the family if you have time maybe each person could put in a little note from them to him [think sort of like a scrap book but small scale] and then once he has gone start getting a weekly parcel ready of his fave stuff, also some baby wipes and think of things that he likes but might be hard to get hold of over there, maybe a new book of his fave author that sort of thing.............but try and make sure it is pretty much all disposable as when he comes back again he will not be able to carry too much. My son is there [or close ish] and I have been sending deodorant [they don't have the one he likes over there] I get the little travel sizes of some of the items he likes, plus some silly stuff to share out with the others all of which other than letters and pictures he can give on to the next guys or dump out...................also when I do buy him something I send a picture of it and let him know it is waiting for him when he gets back.

What to give to a company's anniversary?
It will soon be one of my client's company 40th anniversary at the end of this month. I am unsure if I will be able to attend, but I am thinking of sending over a congratulations gift. In Asia, we usually send flowers or baskets of goods in such occasions. I was wondering if there would be any difference in western or in particular, european countries? What exactly would the best gifts to a company's anniversary: flowers, wine, basket of goods? If flowers' the answer, would you happen to know any famous or prestigious flower companies in Europe. I've heard something about Armani flowers... any help would be very useful, thank you!

Valentines gift for kids. Is it necessary in this day of hardships?
There seems to be an occasion for EVERYTHING! My daughter is 2 and happy to just be near me. My sister spoils her kids and gives them gift for every occasion even if it's her last dollar. I'm a little more budget minded than her. For Valentines Day I plan to make cupcakes for my small family of 3 and go to a nice dinner. I've already told my husband of 7 years that he doesn't need to buy me flowers which has been the norm for several years now. It saves money.. plus I can never keep them alive more than a few days. There won't be any gift exchanging between us.. we usually save the gifts for mother's day, father's day, birthdays, and christmas. So what I'm trying to get at is after Valentines is Easter which is another holiday of spending money on toys, baskets, candies, dresses and eggs. Is it really necessary for Valentines Day? Will I be the only "uncool" mom who won't give her poor kid a gift.
--------------------
For a two year old, she'll be thrilled to just have a yummy cupcake or two, and none of her little friends or their parents will critisize you, in fact, they may even envy your cooking efforts.~ Don't worry about being an ''uncool'' mom over a holiday. I'm still a kid and in my books a mom is amazing as long as she listens to me when I need to talk to somebody and stands up for me when I'm being wronged. :3

Going to be an aunt for the first time, NEED HELP!?
I am going to be an aunt in two months and i have started on a gift basket for my nephew, but not sure of what i should really buy. What are some of the items i should get for the gift basket that will be useful for the new parents and the baby?
--------------------
Go through the baby department at Wal-Mart. Lots of things that new parents can never get enough of include: baby wash baby lotion baby wipes Balmex baby powder cloth diapers - they can be used as burp towels diapers onesies - buy larger than newborn b/c they quickly outgrow these baby bottles - several different sizes (or liners if the parents choose the ones with the disposable liners) nursing pads (if the mother is going to breastfeed your nephew) receiving blankets crib sheets (you can never have enough of those around) baby shampoo (no-tears formula) baby shampoo (the kind for cradle cap) baby nail clippers nasal aspirator (blue bulb looking thing) teething rings mittens for their hands to keep them from scratching their faces socks or booties to keep their feet warm cap or hat if you live in a cooler climate ... the list can go on & on ... If you wanted to include something for the parents use only, you might try getting a gift certificate for their favorite restaurant and include a certificate offer your services as a babysitter for the night to allow them some time to themselves.

Are DVDs universal across Europe and the US?
I am going to Sweden in a few weeks and am preparing a Boston/New England themed gift basket for my hosts (I live in Boston). I want to buy movies like "The Departed" and "Good Will Hunting" and "Fever Pitch" and give them as gifts.
--------------------
Technically, the DVD format is universal. However there are a few subtleties that will prevent you from giving DVDs as gifts. 1. As mentioned above, there are issues with Region coding. Unless the movies you buy are Region 0, then the recipients won't be able to watch them, unless they have a region free DVD player (chances are they don't). 2. Even if they did have a Region Free DVD player, they will likely run into a problem due to the different TV formats used. The US uses NTSC whereas Europe uses PAL. All is not lost ... if your intended recipients use computers to watch their DVDs, there's a chance that they'd be able to play these DVDs, even if they are NTSC. But I'm not 100% sure about that. ft

My dad just had surgery in another state. What should I send him?
I want to send a small gift basket of some sort. He's in his late 50s, and lives with my sister who is 17. (My mom died 8 yrs ago) Anyway, any websites you recommend for gift baskets? I dont think he wants flowers.....

A gift card to a restaurant or somewhere that delivers!! Maybe send him a couple of DVDs and popcorn/hot cocoa?? That's what I would want if I had just had surgery and couldn't go get food myself. I guess it depends what type of surgery he had...

My best male friend just "broke up" with me. What can I do to save our relationship?
My best male friend is the most funny, smart, charming, wonderful man in the world. He is married to an awful witch. He's a big flirt and so am I and we flirted back and forth for a long time, then one day his wife freaked because I gave him a gift basket full of condoms and candies for his birthday. It was supposed to be funny and she told him he couldn't accept it so he told me to put it away. The wife became suspicious at first a while before and said that I "rely on her husband too much" because once when I was having roommate issues, I called HIM for help and not the guy I was seeing. She came with HIM to our house and I did NOT call her to come over, I called him. But they were both helpful in the situation. So time goes on and his wife decides to quit her job and get a doctorate and this put a lot of strain on the marriage. She was at school full-time and got a low-paying college job, so she wasn't around as much any more. He and I became closer. During this time, he told me he had reservations about the marriage and relayed times that she was mean and totally inappropriate and abusive and crazy and totally selfish. I encouraged him to leave her if what he's saying is true (and I know it was b/c she was so rude to me). I told him to call the police and get away from her and put her behind bars where she belongs. He didn't. He would vent to me, but never took any real action to leave her and make her pay for her actions. He promised that he would leave her in the summer, but he didn't. In fact, he contacted me just recently and told me that he and his wife are trying to work things out and he said that he lied and exaggerated things about her because he was very angry with her, which is a lie and I know he is just protecting that witch. He said he doesn't want to be my friend anymore b/c he thinks I'm inappropriate (NOT TRUE) and I've done things to hurt his marriage (what? Trying to help a friend in need?) and said that I don't respect his marriage and his wife is important to him and blah blah blah. So she's obviously a control freak. This is one of my closest friends. He said she feels we had an emotional affair and he agreed and that's why he's cutting me off. He said he can't be around anyone who would say bad things about his wife or try to hurt his marriage. So why? Why now? She obviously has no respect or love for him, so why push away someone who genuinely adores him? I'm so hurt. How can he ditch me just because his mean crazy wife says so? I only said that I'm sorry if he's misconstrued me and I appreciated his friendship. But it's not fair. I don't deserve this. He was supposed to leave her and put that crazy witch in jail and start a new chapter in his life without her control. And now not only is he back with her but now I don't get to be his friend anymore. Why? Because she said so. That's the only reason why. What can I do?????
--------------------
You got involved with a married man. Of course he stretched their relationship all out of proportion and lied to you.. he was enjoying your attention and yes, it was an emotional affair, if not more. He's trying to work things out with her so he chose to cut you out, which he should. You don't respect his marriage and know you would jump him in a heartbeat if given the chance, and so does he.. that's why he's cutting you out while he works on things with his wife. And, no, you're wrong.. she couldn't make him stop his relationship with you - He did because he chose to. Move on, get over him and next time, find yourself a single man.

What would be a great fathers day gift of a handcap dad from stroke?
he doesn't have use of one of his arms and walks with a cane. He doesn't have much money. He use to be a fisherman and nurse. Since his stoke he doesn't do anything but play games on the computer. He still doesn't like going out into public but does. It has been several years since the stroke. I like making my mom baskets and my dad seems to enjoy them but he is really special to me and I want to get him something he will enjoy. He likes gadgets, beer, pot and football. He is an all American Dad. Any help for ideas would be incredible. Thanks for your help in advance.

What about buying a set of web cams with the microphone option? That way even though you can't travel to be with him you can talk to and see him everyday through your computer.

I would go with some little lotions from bath and body- or if you want to go a less expensive route there is always lotions/purfumes/and spa goodies at wallmart for cheap

When did Easter gifts become so much more than candy in a basket?
Many parents are now buying there kids these expensive gifts like: new bikes, game systems, iPODs, etc. Am I just old?? I was lucky to get a stuffed bunny in my candy filled basket. What are your thoughts?

I SO agree!! This is getting ridiculous! What happened to an easter egg hunt, a chocolate bunny and some freakin jelly beans? Oh ya--and the dress to go to Easter service?
