Do you have good ideas for gifts to give a co-worker who is having gastric bypass surgery?

I am thinking of making up a basket full of various items that would be extremely useful and hopefully can help pass time during their recovery. If you have experienced the surgery, or know someone who has, what kind of stuff do you think they would really want/need after coming home from the hospital? Please share your ideas with me. Many thanks in advance!
--------------------
Ahh that is super sweet and awesome of you. Hmm let me remember what I needed when I first got mine done. If you can find some get those little 1 ounce measurement cups - I used those ALOT to see how much of something I was supposed to be eating. Try and include a little can of whey protein mix. They will need to get extra protein from here on out, and b12 so some b12 tabs might be a good idea along with extra calcium. If they are having it done "open" being cut open get them some supplies to clean and redress the wound. You will defenitely want to include some cards of support to open along the way.. day of hospital visit, day after, week after, month after, etc. They also have this thing called a Bari- Bear which helps you sit up and breathe properly after surgery to help slowly work your abs. http://www.nvo.com/teddytech/bari1buddye… Otherwise just get them a new soft comfortable pillow. And lastly the most important thing you can give is your time. They will be down and feeling like crap for quite a while so go visit them. You can print coupons for time if you want. Lastly, you can get a journal for them to keep track of their progress, include a disposable camera so they can take pictures of the weight coming off as it happens super fast! I lost 20 pounds the week I was in the hospital. No joking. That's all I can think of right now. Good luck and send this person well wishes from someone who has been there.

Easter Basket Gifts?

Do you have any good ideas for Easter basket gifts for my husband and my 3-month-old son? My husband is a sports guy (golf, football, etc), but we don't have much money right now. I will take any ideas! Thanks in advance!
--------------------
As for the little guy, when my 7 year old was tiny, we put jars of baby food and baby snack items, travel wipes in a summer plastic set (little chair, pail, shovel, etc.) instead of a basket. All things were very useful. As for your husband, I sometimes give my husband breakfast on the run sort of things like granola bars, and some snack items (nuts, crackers) in his basket. Again, all these are very useful. Happy Easter!

Has anyone used or heard of this home based gift business company?

I'm thinking about doing a home based business and just saw the following site. It looks interesting. It doesnt require any inventory or anything. You just do marketing maybe and find customers and they do the rest and you get a percentage, fairly good one it looks like. They offer two business packages including a simple one for only $20/month for a very basic set up or that plus a one time fee of $500 to do your own online store totally set up by them and you can add your own baskets and other items at any time. www.dropshipgourmet.com I'm emailing them to ask for testimonials from their current members or something like that, plus I'm going to try and do a web search or something. I like the idea of doing my own store and all that but if this is a combination of both then maybe it would be better. Thanks, Suzanne
--------------------
Did a whois check on them and this is there registrant info: Registrant: Gift Baskets Incorporated 82-31 213th Street Hollis Hills, New York 11427 United States I did a generic search on Google and next to no information came up on either company - the site shows up at the top but no other information does. I also did a business license search for both company names at the states licensing site - neither showed up. It sounds like you're doing your own research on it so that's good - sadly I couldn't find anything else out about it for you. Good luck though!

Chinese Auction Anyone?

I need to come up with a unique and different gift basket idea for a chinese auction at my grandson's school. It needs to be something everyone would buy tickets for. Looking to,spend in range of $125.00 or less. Maybe something with gift cards or Lottery tickets but really different.
--------------------
Gift cards could involve just about anything so if you pick a category then the basket could be developed around that for example: -WOMEN'S SHOES (flip flops, slippers, foot cream, pedicure lotion, nail polishes, etc. with gift certificates for women's shoes) -GROCERIES (a gourmet food basket with gift certificates for grocery store in it) -RECREATION TIME (popcorn, candy, games, sodas, gift certificates for bowling, theater, etc.) -SUMMERTIME (beach towels, flip flops, tanning lotion, sunglasses, wrap this all up in a colorful kids innertube and put in well, a gift certificate for something "summery" in your area.. for here it would be a year's worth of beach tags) -PICNIC (get a great looking picnic basket, put in beautiful silverware and dishes for two (buy individually at Marshall's, Ross or TJMaxx.. add gourmet dressing, gourmet choclates, mustard, etc.. you can find it all at TJ's etc.) -BOOK CLUB (join Columbia House book club or Literary Guild and order all books at once (6 books plus the 4 you contract for... buy all the best sellers. Put them all in a basket with gourmet coffee, a beautiful mug, some slippers, some bath oil, an aroma therapy candle). -LOTTERY (go to Toys R Us an get all sorts of games.. try to make them all betting games. Decorate the entire basket with monopoly money pasted everywhere. Put in lottery tickets, money clip, a Suze Ormon Money Book, etc.) -SPA (put in a terry head towel, foot pedicure kit, lotions, a spa robe and a gift certificate to a spa.. kinda typical but the spa robes from Land's End would be great in this). -WINE TASTERS (Ask your local liquor store to pick out some great wines.. a variety.. add in a few different cheeses, brie, roquefort, asiago.. some gourmet crackers etc.) -DIET BASKET (South Beach Diet book and all the South Beach approved treats you can find or Weight Watchers book etc) -ITALIAN BASKET (fill with very cool gourmet dry pasta, gourmet sauces, olive oils, olives, tapenade, cheeses etc. A bottle of Chianti. Line the basket with a red and white) checked table cloth. -GRILLING (fill with gift cert. for Omaha steaks, steak sauce, grilling tools, huge salt and pepper grinders, pot holders, a grilling apron, fantastic marinades)

how would I go about planning this?

I am going to try to plan a "Doggie Day" in my local park. I want my local humane society to bring some dogs that are up for adoption to this. How would I ask them or tell them about my idea? And also, who else might i need permission to do this? maybe the town's major? I was planning on owners bringing there dogs to the park. There would be games for the owners and there dogs, prizes, donations to the humane society, gift basket occasions, and it would give people a chance to maybe adopt a dog. any other ideas?

What is a good gift for my broke and financially struggling boyfriend?

My boyfriend is extremely strapped for cash this year, due to recently being laid off. He's relatively young (in his 20s), and is barely getting by. He is barely able to pay his rent, and very rarely ever has anything left over for food, gas, entertainment, etc. I am thinking that, because of the situation he's in, I'd really love to do something for him for Christmas to help even just a little bit. My two ideas are either getting him a nice wallet full of tons of gift cards for gas, grocery stores, etc. or else making him a really nice, huge gift basket of basic everyday essentials that he needs. Would these be good ideas, or would it come across as offensive? I'm also thinking of getting him a DVD he'd like, but I'm more-so concerned with getting him basic things that he is having to go without. Are there any more ideas out there that might be more subtle?
--------------------
My name is Hope too :) Honestly, I think both of those are fairly god ideas. He shouldn't be offended by those gifts, instead he should appreciate the gesture and know you gave him those things out of love. I would give him a mix of both. If you do a stocking for him you can stuff it with essentials like toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, shaving cream, razors, etc without it seeming really obvious, make sure to include his favorite kinds of candy as well. Then get him a nice wallet and fill it with a gas and grocery card, then get him a shirt and maybe a few other small things. He will appreciate luxury items as well because I am sure he is not splurging on himself at all right now. Good luck!

Marine gift idea? How come didn't I receive phone call from my fiance?

I am engaged to my Jar head (Marine recon) who has been in Iraq for a little over 1 month. I haven't received any phone calls from him. The other girl from our support group has received several phone calls already, and her husband is a regular Marine officer. There were many people told me that no news is good news, but I couldn't sleep, and I had bad dreams about him getting hurt. I couldn't concentrate. I kept on dreaming about his body parts fly all over the places, stuff like that. I don't get any support from my family who thinks I made a mistake by having a relationship with him. They think my future is doomed. Right now, it is only me myself and a hope that I will see him soon. How can I find out if he's safe? Also, I have his address, it is a APO/FPO address, do you think sending him a gift basket full of chocolates, cookies, little cakes, and some DVDs is a good idea? thank you
--------------------
Dont sweat it too much, the reason the other girl has gotten calls is because her husband is an officer. Your fiance is an enlisted man comes with alot of restrictions, he'll call when he gets the chance but I bet he's got his hands full right now. I dont think sending chocolate or any foods that dont do well in heat is a good idea but anything solid and small and a reminder of you is great, send him some photo's of your smiling face. Good luck hope you hear from him soon.

Baby Gift Basket (With hand-knit trinkets)?

I have a neighbor who is having a baby and thought it would be nice to give them a girft basket full of hand-knit goodies... But I need patterns! Here's a list of what I want to make - Blanket Bib Hat Booties I'd like to have some links to patterns that are listed that I can make myself - free pattern (I don't have a job (I'm only 11)) beginner or easy, and low on time consumption (Baby shower is on the 13th? of July (Not a whole lot of time)) Thanks so much to all who respond!

What was your favourite shower gift?

I was going to make a diaper cake for my friends baby shower since my sister made me one and I loved it! But I guess my idea was too good because a 'friend' of mine instantly took the idea as her own. But I'd rather not be petty about it...time to think of a new idea haha. I liked it because it was cheap since I don't have a lot of money. I have a baby bath that my son used and I was going to make a gift basket using the bath instead of a traditional basket. I also have a car seat toy that he barely used to put in there and some unopened lotions and bath stuff. What other cheap things could I include? Does this sound like a good idea? What was your favourite shower gift? Thanks :)
--------------------
I would still use the bath tub and just fill it with lots of diapers and wipes. Or.... You could always go to accouple of garage sales and buy her some second hand toys for when the baby gets a little older. All that stuff cleans up nicely with a little soap and water. I'm sure she would appreciate anything you give her!

I also plan on making vegan varieties also so I can reach out to more people... does this sound like a good plan or a lost cause? Thanks in advance :)

i have an idea for my boyfriend but i wanna know if its a good idea.?

so today i found out he really likes movies tostito scoops, pace chunky salsa, and fruit punch gatorade. i was thinking about making a gift basket with them in it and wrapping up the clothes i got him separately. do you think this is a good idea?
--------------------
a gift basket with all his favorite foods is an awesome idea - he will LOVE it! Include a "ticket" to leave him alone during the Superbowl and offer yourself as dessert when the game is over. This will be more fun than just giving him clothes and will give him something to look forward to after the holidays are over.
