My sister and I are opening an online gift shop. She paints (on canvas or wood, and also things like picture frames) and I make crafts like gift bows, gift baskets, and various home decor. We REALLY need a catchy name for our store, bc we hope that one day we will be able to expand into an actual store. We were hoping for a name that would incorporate that we were sisters, but we have drawn a blank. All suggestions are helpful!
--------------------
I think you are focusing on the wrong part of your new business. A short name that resonates with consumers is important with a store-front but an on-line presence relies more on its ability to be brought up in a search that will bring people to your site. Be sure that you have a qualified individual setting up you site so that it is easy to use and that your meta-tags are varied enough to include anything that may even remotely relate to your sites sales. As for the name, if your long-term goal is to have a physical location for walk-in traffic, the old yellow pages trick works in on-line searches too: start your name with a number or the letter 'A'. Myself, I prefer a name that is easy to remember and short. Something like Precious Treasures, Creative Gifts or Heritage Gifts lets people know what you are and then what you sell is unique and hand-crafted. Good Luck

My sister has cancer. Any suggestions for a chemotherapy gift basket?
I would like to get her books (preferably not about cancer.) Do you have any suggestions for lighthearted books, books about sisters, or just good books in general? She's in her 60s, but very young at heart. Also other suggestions about what else to put in the basket are greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your help.
--------------------
That's so sweet of you to want to put together something comforting for her. And that's really where you should go with it. She's going to be very uncomfortable through the chemo. Typical reactions to chemo are nausea, vomiting, chills, dry mouth, dry skin and lips and increased skin sensitivity. She'll need foods that are gentle on her stomach, since chemo can cause nausea and vomiting. She'll also need things to help her feel comfortable: soft and cozy blankets, high thread count sheets, soft flannel jammies, foot and hand warmers, lip balm, etc. Don't forget about things to make her feel beautiful as well: body lotions, pretty cardigans, fun glasses to help with reading. As for books, I'd suggest Joyce Meyer for supportive and uplifting spiritual writing. If your sister likes light and fluffy mysteries, try Janet Evanovich. (My 60 year old mom, 94 year old neighbor and 42 year old me all love her!) For a bit more inspiration, try Maya Angelou. Make sure you don't send flowers or live plants. Although the color would be cheering, her immune system will be compromised and the plants could cause inflammation or respitory issues. Your sister is very lucky to have someone as considerate as you by her side as she goes through chemo. Give her gentle hugs and be there when she needs you.

find a theme, and go with it! movie theme: candy, like redvines, milk duds; microwave popcorn; a 20 oz soda or two; you could also incorporate a dvd or movie rental gift certificate. wine theme: bottle of wine; meat & cheese (get the kind that's non-referigerated), hickory farms type stuff; chocolates; crackers; you can put in a little cutting board or wine charms or the like pasta theme: dried pasta (the colored kind looks nice), a canned sauce (or alternately most of the ingredients to make one's own), some special herbs, maybe some wine; a pasta spoon could be added, or a nice canister, maybe a cookbook. (or even a gift certificate to an italian restaurant) you could do hot chocolates, teas, coffees, spiced ciders, and put extras in with it, like flavored syrup, candy canes, chocolate spoons, marshmallows, cinnamon sticks, honey sticks; and add a mug or two candies & sweets are always good too, i usually put together tins full of a variety of fudge ("almond joy" & peanut butter & regular), german chocolate rice crispy treats, sugar cookies, no-bake cookies, pumpkin cookies, etc. a nice variety.

Family friend passed away. Should I send her family a gift basket?
A close family friend passed away. She was a college professor who help my family tremendously. She helped my mom get a full time job in the housekeeping department at her university where she taught. This kind professor also gave my siblings money for college text books, bonds, etc. She passed away a few days ago. What would be an appropriate way to show my familys gratitude to this woman now that she has passed? She has a daughter who my family is also very close to. Should I send the daughter flowers and a card? Or perhaps a fruit basket? Please help! Thank you.
--------------------
You restore my faith in people.. Send her daughter a personal card telling her how much you loved and appreciated her mom.. Her moms favorite flowers would be a nice touch or the fruit basket is also appropriate.. God Bless you and your family for being loving and caring..You are very refreshing in these days..

Any good Christmas gift ideas?
I would be up for making things like gift baskets but I don't know what to put in them! I have to buy for my parents, 2 sisters, 1 brother and my boyfriend! I am on a tight budget as everyone seems to be these days! I don't want anything that looks cheap though!

I love to make gift baskets- that's my specialty! just wander the stores and look for items that you think they would like. movies, gloves, slipper socks, perfume/cologne, treats, small gadgets, cocoa mix, games, small bottles of booze, there are tons of things you can put in there! always check clearance sections first to find good deals!

i've got a few presentable baskets & giftboxes...?
i've got like 3 wooden baskets and 3 or 4 really nice giftboxes.. i dont want to use them to give them away to someone else..they look like i could find a use for them, and not look trashy-ish... but i havent been able to figure out what to do with them... any ideas? both wooden baskets are rectangular shapes..and the gift boxes are just normal square (medium size).. i know it probably sounds like a silly question..but if i cant think of anything..i'll just use them as gift baskets & the boxes..to put gifts for someone else...

They would make great storage containers--I just went to a church sale where one of the workers offered to sell me all the baskets there for $2.00--there were 24 of them! Needless to say, I'm finding all kinds of uses. One square one was just the right size to put napkins in. If you have a place where "stuff" accumulates, stick a basket or box there and let it hold keys, change, etc. I take a lot of medicine, so I've got my pillboxes all lined up in a basket. And I have a bunch of little soaps and bath oils that I put in a small basket in the bathroom. If the boxes are bigger, you might try using one as a magazine holder, too.

What would you put in a hotel gift bag for an out-of-town guest?
My aunt is coming to visit me and I would like to put together a gift basket to have in her hotel room. She's only been up here once and it was a very brief visit. What would you suggest that I put in this gift basket?
--------------------
I would put samples of items unique to the area. My town has an apple store that makes amazing things, so I always put samples of their sparkling ciders and jams in gift baskets. We have a unique German bakery, so I put a gift card from the bakery in the basket so guests can purchase pastries to go with the jams I have given them. Make the basket scream 'my town'.

Parents, at what age do you choose to stop giving Easter gifts/baskets/candy/etc. to your children?
This is something my husband and I have a hard time agreeing on. In my family, we were given SOMETHING for Easter until we went off to college. However, my husband says we should stop as soon as she stops believing in the Easter Bunny. How about your family? I'm just wanting to get a general opinion on this matter.
--------------------
i agree with you! my sister & I received a small gift for Easter until the day we moved out! It's Easter, everyone deserves a little treat whether they believe or not.. that's like saying you shouldn't give/receive anything on Christmas because you don't believe in Santa.

I need help with a Fondue Gift Basket, I only have what's listed below?
Small Chocolate Fondue set, chocolate fondue dipping sauce, and a basket. Nothing can be perishable because the basket will be sitting out for a day or so. We are wanting to make it full and nice. Thanks.
--------------------
I would add a bottle of Kirsch, or white wine, perhaps some Brandy or Cognac. I'd think about cheeses that would be nice, some biscotti, maybe some mustard. I' d also type up some recipes for your friend on fancy or colored paper. This is really a good idea for a basket. Nice friend you are! <3 Bittersweet Chocolate Fondue Ingredients: 1/3 cup whipping cream 1 1/2 teaspoons (packed) grated orange peel 8 ounces bittersweet (not unsweetened) or semisweet chocolate, finely chopped 3 tablespoons Grand Marnier or other orange liqueur 8 1-inch pieces pound cake 8 1-inch pieces angel food cake 8 fresh strawberries, hulled 2 kiwis, peeled, each cut into 4 rounds 1 small pear, cored, cut into 1-inch pieces 1 large banana, cut into 8 rounds 1 orange, peel and white pith removed, cut into sections 8 dried Calimyrna figs 8 dried apricot halves Preparation: Bring whipping cream and grated orange peel to simmer in heavy medium saucepan. Reduce heat to low. Add chopped chocolate and 1 tablespoon Grand Marnier; whisk until mixture is smooth. Remove fondue from heat and blend in remaining 2 tablespoons Grand Marnier. Transfer fondue to fondue pot. Place over candle or canned heat burner. Serve with cake pieces and fruit for dipping. Irish Cheddar & Stout Fondue Ingredients: 2 cups 1- to 1 1/2-inch-diameter red-skinned potatoes, halved 2 cups cauliflower florets 2 cups very small brussels sprouts 2 apples, cored, cut into wedges 1 pound Irish cheddar cheese, grated 2 1/2 tablespoons all purpose flour 3/4 cup (or more) Irish stout (such as Guinness) 6 tablespoons frozen apple juice concentrate, thawed 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard Preparation: Steam all vegetables until tender, about 15 minutes. Arrange vegetables and apples around edge of large platter. Meanwhile, toss cheese with flour in large bowl. Bring 3/4 cup stout, juice concentrate, and mustard to simmer in large saucepan over medium heat. Gradually add cheese mixture, stirring constantly, until cheese is melted and smooth, thinning with more stout, if desired. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Transfer fondue to bowl. Place in center of platter with vegetables. Classic Swiss Cheese Fondue Ingredients: 1 clove garlic, sliced in two 12 ounces dry, white wine 1 tsp. fresh lemon juice 1 Tbsp. corn starch Splash of kirsch 14 ounces coarsely grated Gruyère 14 ounces coarsely grated Emmental Cubed French bread and sliced apples Preparation: Brush an earthenware fondue pot with the garlic. Add the wine and the lemon juice and bring to a simmer. Mix together in a cup the kirsch and the corn starch. Over a low heat, add the cheese to the pot and stir consistently until melted and smooth. Add the kirsch mixture and stir until even. Transfer to a table burner and serve with bread and apples. Serves 4 Caramel-Cognac Fondue Ingredients: 1/2 cup sugar 2 tablespoons water 1 1/3 cups warm whipping cream 2 tablespoons Cognac 1 tablespoon unsalted butter Fresh strawberries, thinly sliced apples or pears, sliced bananas, fresh tangerine segments and sliced star fruit Preparation: Combine sugar and 2 tablespoons water in heavy medium saucepan. Stir over low heat until sugar dissolves. Increase heat; boil without stirring until mixture is deep amber color, occasionally brushing down sides of pan with wet pastry brush and swirling pan, about 3 minutes. Add warm cream to caramel. Stir over medium-high heat until sauce is smooth and reduced to 1 1/4 cups, about 5 minutes. Add Cognac and cook 1 minute longer. Remove from heat. Add butter and stir until melted. (Can be prepared 8 hours ahead. Cover and chill. Rewarm over medium-low heat before serving.) Transfer sauce to small fondue pot or flameproof ceramic bowl. Set pot over candle or canned heat burner. Serve with strawberries, apples or pears, bananas, tangerine segments and star fruit. Serves Four. Basic Cheese Fondue Ingredients: 1 garlic clove, halved 2 c. shredded Gruyére cheese 2 c. shredded Emmentaler cheese 1 c. dry white wine 1 t. lemon juice 1 t. cornstarch 2 T. kirsch or brandy dash of ground white pepper pinch of freshly grated nutmeg Preparation: Rub the inside of fondue pot with cut garlic clove. Add cheese, wine and lemon juice and cook over medium flame until melted and bubbly. Blend cornstarch and liquor in a small bowl and add to the cheese, stirring two to three minutes or until mixture is thick and smooth. Do not allow the fondue to boil. Season with pepper and nutmeg. Serve with pickles, prosciutto, and marinated onions. Serves 4. Idaho Potato Wedges with Four Cheese Fondue Ingredients: 4 medium Idaho russet potatoes, cut lengthwise into 8 to 10 skin-on wedges 1/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon salad oil, divided Salt 6 ounces apple-wood smoked bacon, cooked crisp and crumbled 1/2 cup thinly sliced scallions, divided 1/4 cup red bell pepper, 1/4-inch dice 8 to 10 ounces sour cream (optional) Preparation: Toss potato wedges in 1/4 cup oil; add salt and pepper to taste. Spread on sheet pan. Bake in 350°F convection oven until tender and golden, about 25 minutes (or about 40 minutes in a conventional oven). Potatoes may be prepared ahead up to this point and refrigerated until service. In heavy-bottomed saucepan over low heat, melt butter and remaining tablespoon oil; stir in flour; cook, stirring occasionally, until color is a very light brown, 6 to 7 minutes. Do not allow mixture to darken or develop nutty aroma. Whisk in Chardonnay and Champagne until smooth. Continue cooking over low heat until alcohol is cooked out, 4 to 5 minutes. Whisk in milk and half-and-half; continue to cook until thickened, 8 to 10 minutes. Gradually add cheeses; cook, whisking, until cheeses melt and sauce is smooth, about 5 minutes. Stir in Kirsch and salt, adjusting seasoning to taste. Reserve warm. Just before service, deep-fry potato wedges in oil heated to 350°F until golden brown and crisp, about 4 minutes. Drain. Stir bacon and 1/4 cup scallions into cheese, reserving remaining scallions for garnish. Plating: Spoon 3 to 4 ounces cheese fondue into miniature fondue pot or butter warmer. Garnish with scallions and red peppers. Serve with 4 potato wedges and, if desired, a 1-ounce ramekin of sour cream for dipping.

how to make a gift basket?
Im always buying ready gift baskets but this time i want to learn how to make gift basket i don't even know how to make a bow please help!!!!!!!!!
--------------------
http://www.save-on-crafts.com/howtomakeb shows you how to make all kinds of gorgeous bows. As to making the gift baskets themselves, go to your local World Market or craft store and purchase a basket you like, fill it with the items you want (for example, for a bath basket put in a loofah, a bottle of bubble bath, some bath salts, some bath beads, a nice wash cloth, and a good book. You might line this basket with a fluffy towel) then wrap it in colored cellophane, which you can purchase at the craft store for cheap. For other ideas on gift baskets, just dig around some of the websites that do gift baskets and see what kinds of stuff they're filling baskets with for different themes (bridal shower, new baby, birthday, coffee addict, etc).

What to use to "build up" gift basket?
I'm making a gift basket, and need ideas on what to use to place the items on (so they aren't sitting on the bottom of the basket) I was going to purchase styrofoam blocks, but they're about $3.50 EACH for a small one, and they didn't have the taller one I needed, and I need a few, so I'd like to see what other options are available.

so far, I have estrogen pills, depilatory, granny panties, anti-wrinkle cream, age-spot lightener, nice-n-easy to cover the grey, tweezers, and a good firm pillow. Am I leaving anything out ? Any other suggestions? thank you. disclaimer: I am a 40+ er, too, so I know whereof I speak.

An electric scooter (so she can run down all those pesky kids...even pushy stroller moms won't be a match for her!) A guarantee for the room with a view in the senior citizens home. Orthopedic shoes. A dull purple sweatsuit outfit. The Golden Girls on box set (I'll have one for xmas thanks!) A free hysterectomy (how will you fit it in the gift basket? just drop her off at the hospital with 100 bucks I guess?) Maybe throw in a mink stole? And add my name to the gift tag, please- I mean, look at all the hard work I put into this present! Happy birthday Mozz!

I'll probably put the items in a shoebox. Just list the items in like bullets. .Measuring Spoons .Spatulas, etc.. Thanks! Make sure there's over 10! or 20!
--------------------
Instead of putting the items in a shoebox how about buying one of those hanging basket things people put their fresh fruits & veggies & stuff in? Things to put in it: - Measuring spoons, measuring cups - Spatulas (solid, slitted, egg spatula, meat spatula) - Tongs - Ladle - Pie cutter - Ice cream scoop - Pastry spatulas - Candy thermometer - Oven mitts (gloves and fingertip kinds) - Trivets

Should I give a gift to my co-work who doesn't celebrate Christmas?
My coworker is a Jehova Witness and doesn't celebrate Christmas. I planned on bring in little gift baskets of cookies for some of the other co-workers as Christmas gifts. i don't want to make this on coworker think I am leaving him out, but I do not want to offend him. He's a nice guy and we discuss our religous view all the time civilally. As long as I don't make is basket look all Christmasy do you think it would be the right think for me to give him one too? Or do you think I should try something else for everyone as group (such as bring in breakfast) to show respect for him?

My best friend is a jahova witness.. and he still buys presents for those who celebrate christmas.. and accepts the gifts as well. Im sure he isnt celebrating Jesus's birth, but merely having fun with his friends. He's a little more lax in his beliefs though.. on the other hand another gentleman i knew grewing up.. wouldnt even accept the soda that the teacher gave out on birthdays, because it went against his beliefs. I'd say, you know this man better than any of us.. gage how much his religion means to him. I dont think he'd be offended by the offer, but just dont take it to personally if he politely declines taking the gift (plus if he does you got some extra goodies to snack on during the day). no one likes to feel left out, and even the thought, would probably be appreciated.

I want to put together a gift basket for my boyfriends mom's birthday. She wants a specific candle (a Fall scent fro Yankee Candle) so that's one thing that I definitely want to include. But what else could I put in it that won't be completely out of place? Thanks in advance for your suggestions =)

I am making a gift basket with the shrinking bags....HELP!!!?
This is my first time making a gift basket so I need some help. I am making a teacher basket with a lot of sweets, candy etc. When I tie the bag,do I keep air in the bag or do I try to get all the air out before i tie it shut? Thanks so much.

I don't think it really matters very much but I guess you don't want to have so much air in there it's like a ballon. When you use the blow dryer to heat the bag it shrinks the way it should. Don't overheat it though. And don't put the dryer too close either. Do yourself a favor and hide the ends/opening of the bag at the bottom if you can. You don't want all that extra plastic on top. And if you are using something like a hat box instead of a basket, wrap it first and then cover the bottom with the lid or prop the lid inside to hold everything up. The whole thing will look prettier. It will also look better if you support the items with that confetti stuffing or something else so that the items are not sitting in the bottom of the basket where you can't see them. Fill up the basket as much as you can before you shrink wrap it. The point of the wrap is to hold everything in tight. Don't have so few items in the basket that they are floating around inside. Make sure you wrap the whole thing with a pretty bow.Have fun. :)
