I'm thinking about starting a gourmet gift basket business?

I'm thinking about starting a gourmet gift basket business with like salsas, spreads, guacamole, and jellies. So I was wandering if I were to build a website where should I go to do that? Also what do I need to do to get started? Does anybody see this type of business as having some potential and how should I market? Does anybody think that conducting a survey about this type of business would be a good idea. Please give me some pointers.
--------------------
You had better get your basket items cheap, because the stuff can get really expensive for a nice basket, unless you are able to get the items at wholesale prices. Also basket are everywhere, Costco, Sam's club, I make gourmet baskets as gifts and people really like them, but they really don't want to pay what they are really worth. Good luck

nascar fans, I could use a little help?

I'm working on gift baskets for my family for Christmas, (I know, it's only May, early shopper) anyway, they're all nascar fans, too, and I wanted to do each basket with stuff for their favorite drivers. My question is, if someone were to give you a gift basket, what would be the 1 thing you'd MOST like to see in the basket? (please don't say tickets, there are 7 people I'm making these for, I can't afford that many tickets, lol..)
--------------------
Hot wheels die cast(cheap but cool) of my favorite driver and just a new cap to wear. Preferably one without the sponsors logo. I only wear product with the driver or team info. A mug or coozie is cool as well. Lucky family. I still get soap on a rope from some people.

Would this be a good gift for my sisters wedding?

I am the matron of honor... im 20 so wine... its out of the ?... so I dont want to get her lingerie or whatever... that is just Original... So like what if I mad her a basket of like oils and stuff... candles ... Chocolate.. any more ideas?
--------------------
Bless you heart. I'm sure that your sister will cherish your thoughfulness. In addition to what you have already said, you can add chocolate covered strawberries (Godiva has delicious ones, or DIY at home) , spakling cider -in place of wine-, 2 glass flutes, comfty slippers for both, if your budget permits, robes for both, a picture frame, flower petals (they sell fake ones too), and a batery operated candle. Most hotels do not allow to burn candles, so you can get a fake candle that smells and look real but they can put their ontheir honeymoon suite. Best wishes !

What are some good marketing ideas?

I have a small gift basket business and I am trying to think of some unique ways to get my business name out there to the public. I have set up a Myspace page for the business, I have thought about printing flyers to spread around the college campuses, parks, and my apt complex mailboxes/doors etc....what are some other ideas that can help me get my name out there?
--------------------
Facebook page. Google advert Facebook advert As with the above you only pay what you want for example i did one and set aside £30 for it and thats what you get. Facebook works on the amount of clicks. So you get alocated clicks for different amounts. It is quite good! Im in the same boat you are with a new business. Once you have set up a facebook page email me the link, r.e.perry@hotmail.com then i will become a fan, then all my friedns will see etc... Join my page and see what you think

If I were you, I'd do a little research into some prominent people in your community; clergy, reporters, mayor or councillor, librarian, owner of the grocery store, etc... anyone that knows lots of people. And make them a gift basket with things that they like. They get a free basket on their desk one morning, for doing absolutely nothing. Have a little note just saying you hope they have a great day. Now this is your choice, but you may want to consider putting 20 business cards in the basket that they can distribute OR don't put them in and hope that they call you to say thank you, and you can talk a bit of business at that point. Both ways have their merits. Good luck!

Has this ever happened to you while doing charity work?

At two of the places I worked, we would get together baskets of food & gifts for families/kids in need & would distribute them around the holidays. This was a huge, nationally known charity. Most of the families were so appreciative and were actually in need. However, some of them were unreal &how they got on the list of the needy was beyond me. Twice when I went we left the baskets & gifts at homes that had computers, internet, cable, a nice TV, stereo. The mother was on the couch, no kids in sight, & just waved to us & said "put them on the table" &went back to watching her soaps. No thank you or anything - like it was her due to receive this stuff. Amazing how she got on this needy list, taking things away from those that really needed them. I blame the charity. Their warehouses were packed with things to distribute. From then on, we went with smaller charities & churches who actually knew the needy families. What kind of experiences have you had?
--------------------
At least once a month, some one in our parish cites a story, such as yours, as the reason that they don't contribute to food banks and charities. Sadly, this sort of thing does happen. If you have ever been part of a charity screening process; you'd probably notice that the interview process is pretty basic. Charities ask a few basic questions such as name, address, number of kids, and income. And if someone has phony ID or is borrowing a neighbors or relatives ID? We have really no way to determine if they are who they say they are...and, forget about asking for social security numbers; with the new privacy laws, we can't even ask for those any more. It's a challenge for sure. Certainly, charities could require all kinds of ID to "weed out" the cheaters ~ we could demand birth certificates, and rental agreements, tax returns, utility bills and all sorts of things. However, people who are homeless or in living in excruciating poverty do not have this sort of information. Do we deny them food because they can't prove that they need it? It's a fine line that we have to walk when comes to helping the poor ~ but, I've always been of the opinion that is better to let a few scoundrels slip through the cracks, than to deny food to hundreds of others who haven't eaten in a week.

any affordable christening/baptism favors or givaways ideas?

My favorite niece will have her baptism in two weeks, and her brother assigned to take care of the party favors. Can you guys give me ideas that I can make on my own? Or name of the store where I can buy unique baptismal favors? I am also considering edible favors, gift baskets.. I don't know, i can't decide on this thing, so if you can bombard me with your creative ideas, then it will be really excellent! thanks guys!
--------------------
Yes, my sister and I just through my son a baptism, and we went to a local craft store and bought small crosses, painted them blue, or you could do pink if a girl, then we wrote his name on it with a silver pen, and put the sticky sided magnets on it, and then people could use them on there fridges as a keepsakes. We also used the porcelin crosses from the dollar store as balloon weights and let guests take those home as well. Or you could get religious shaped cookie cutters, and make cookies, and wrap them up pretty and give those also.

I need ideas on gift bakets spa style>>?

I am going to start now on making some spa baskets what all do you think it needs in it?
--------------------
Have you decided where you are you getting you products from? There are many ways to work with BeautiControl. They train you to have Spa parties in which you can customize skincare the guests, sell spa/body products and cosmetics. They also train you to determine peoples "seasons" and which colors are best for them both in wardrobe and cosmetics, with make-up application techniques. Another route is being Bridal consultant, they supply everything you need to help brides with there big day, regarding dress type, hair style & veil choice, skincare, make-up and relaxation techniques. Another option is going in to businesses and having mini stress breaks. I have hosted parties at my house, gone to peoples houses and hosted parties for them, gone into businesses for the stress breaks and now I use the products with my massage clients. The products are wonderful and they sell themselves. I am pretty new to BC, but so far I love it. I joined for the skincare because I had heard wonderful things about it, and because to remain a consultant and receive the discount on the skincare you just have to place a $100 retail order every 3 months. (minus discount). Now I am building a business for myself, so I can stay at home with my little girl, she is one month old. BC supplies everything to start your own business. All for $99, what an opportunity! It's usually $250 to join and receive over $500 in products but this month it's $99! If you are interested, email me or check out my site listed below in sources. Harry and David pears? how long do you have until they go bad?

I am ordering a gift basket for my boss's birthday from Harry and David. It is suppose to arrive on Friday. I just found out she'll be on vacation and won't be back till next Monday. Will the pears still be fine by then? When the gift basket arrives, HOW LONG DOES SHE HAVE BEFORE THE PEARS GO BAD? a few days? a week? 1 day? I need to know in case I need to cancel my order for now. thanks!
--------------------
Keep them in a cool place 10C/50 to 60 F, and they will keep for a long, long time. I get the pears for my family this time of year, and they always love them! Harry and David is awfully good! You'll be fine.

I won a 'Mary Kay Makeover' what does that mean?

I was at a festival this weekend and did a bunch of free raffles. Some were gift baskets. I don't really remember the rest. I got a call saying I won the Mary Kay Makeover. Does that mean a makeup lady comes over my house, does my makeup and leaves? Do I get any free makeup? Or do I have to go somewhere and have them put stuff on my face while they put the hard sell on me?
--------------------
What it means is usually you won something $10 CG or product but if she only said a facial then you haven't won anything this is one of my pet peeves that makes MK look bad. You are getting to try the products for free and the consultant is using items that she paid for to let you try things so for those that feel you get nothing that isn't exactly true how many place can you shop that let you try whatever you want before you buy and even if you don't buy well that is Mary Kay letting you try products helping you find what is best for your skin and buying only if you want you should never feel pres sued to buy it can actually be a lot of fun so go ask her what you won let her explain how it works and what she does. I have been on both sides so I am more upfront with people for that reason I don't like feeling scammed into something however I love Mary Kay products and have used them for 10 years so i also feel it is a treat to try and share them.

Would this be a good first anniversary gift?

Some friends are about to celebrate their first anniversary. I had this idea to give them fixings for a romantic dinner for two- in a basket. It would include a bottle of Pinot Grigio, a very nice bottle of extra virgin olive oil to go along with the recipe I'll include, and candles. I think it is a cute and sweet idea, but...maybe it's lame?
--------------------
I like your idea but I side w/ the more traditional gift. Our first year anniv gifts followed the tradition. I cut this from a website. "Celebrate one year of marriage with paper gifts from the traditional list. Clocks represent the contemporary alternative." Consider the following paper gifts, if you opt for a present from the traditional list: engraved stationery, a book, a scrapbook, a newspaper or magazine subscription, or even a tree to plant in the backyard.

What should I give a friend who put together a computer for me?

I bought all new parts and a friend of mine assembled it and got it running. He is well-off and seems to have all the cool gadgets and stuff he could want. I'd like to send something unique as thanks, not something generic like a gift card or gift basket. Any ideas would be most appreciated! (I'd be willing to spend up to about $80.)

What can I put in a basket i am making for my sister's wedding gift?

Something they both can enjoy
--------------------
I would make it a pamper pack for two - like a honeymoon in a basket. Massage oil, chocolates, fluffy handcuffs (lol) maybe a mild adult game - like dices bath crystals/salts/fizzes microwave popcorn, candy & dvd hire vouchers for a "movie night at home" a bottle of wine the list could just go on and on

I was just wondering what's something you would buy off line instead of going to the store?

For example things like gift baskets for any occasions, welcome home baby baskets, and etc. Things that can be made for people so they won't have to go to the store and buy all the items themselves
--------------------
I'd buy anything online that I would in the store. Things like gift baskets are good because a lot of times you would send them as gifts to other people, and if they are far away it's easier to buy online and ship to them versus going to the store, having to package on your own, and then going to the post office and paying postage. So I think anything done as a gift or that would need shipping is better online. (Especially when companies like amazon.com offer free shipping!)

recipes & other ideas for teachers?

hi everyone! I'm making gift baskets for my teachers, and I am looking for recipes and other ideas for things like cookies and such that could go into the baskets. :D thanks!
--------------------
sugar cookies 2 cups sugar 1 cup margine 3 eggs 1 cup sour cream (8oz) 1 tspn baking soda 2 tspn baking powder 4 1/3 cups flour cream the sugar and margine. add eggs, beat well 5-10 minutes with mixer. add sour cream and dry ingredients. drop by tblspn. bake 12 min at 350 degrees. I made these cookies for my daughter's teacher. she said he ate 15 in one day! So i guess he liked them. They are not like the regular flat sugar cookies. they have some air in them so they are soft and yummy. And they stay soft for a few days. this recipie will make about 40-50 cookies depending on how big you make them. So, one batch would easily be enough for a few teachers.
