what can we do about the unhealthy heat in our apartment that we pay the landlord for?...?

the heat and water is supposed to be included, but it actualy is $150 a month even in the warmer wheather...we live in michigan...the building has 6 units and it has a steam radiator system with the boiler in the basement...sometimes it is over 90 degrees in our place...it was 18 below zero the other day and we had to open all the windows to our place and it still only brought the temperature in here to 79...sometimes the radiators go completely off...they went off about 15 hours ago and now it is 51 degrees in here with the windows closed right not of course...the landlord does nothing to fix the problem...our daughter has had 2 ear and througt infections this winter and has never had them before...when it is hot in here it gets so bad that it melts the chocolate in our cupboards...i went down to the basement to take a look at the boiler steam system...there was paperwork on the wall...the 2 yr inspection for it is 4 months late, and sheet that showed service calls said the last one was back in 2000!...so they haven't even had any "tune ups" on this boiler for 9 years!...wow!!!...i am not going to mess with the boiler because that is beyond my knowledge and i also don't want to get blamed for "breaking" it...what can i do about this?...can i turn the landlord in?...where would i do it?...how can i get him to fix it?...oh, we do not have a thermostat in our apartment and there are no controlers on the radiators so we are stuck with what comes through...also, we don't have screens on our windows or doors...we are forced to open them when it is 90 degrees in here...we had a squirel that got into our bedroom and destroyed a food basket gift we had wrapped...we asked the landlord if we were forced to open our windows and doors if he could at least put screens on them so that we do not get anymore possible rabid rodents and wild animals coming into our place and destroying our belongings...is there anyway we can get him to put screens on?...any help or advice would be greatly appreciated...thank you!!!...

My husband and I have been married for 4 yrs. and everytime I get him a gift he winds up taking it back. If he has a favorite picture of you, you could put it in a nice frame for him. Also, this is kind of cheesy, but a friend of mine gave her boyfriend a pretty wooden box and filled it with rose petals. On each petal she wrote something she loved about him, like "your smile" , "the way you laugh" etc. He's kind of a sensitive guy so he liked it. Now he uses the box to keep stuff in. Just an idea.

How can my brothers wedding receive so much more attention?

I know this shouldn't bother me. I even think the fact it bothers me bothers me more then the situation. My little brother got married last Saturday. He and his new wife received so many gifts and cards. Over 2,000 dollars cash, an expenses paid honeymoon to Hawaii, plasma tv and surround sound, more kitchen stuff then I can list, full bedroom and bathroom decor... Everything you can dream of. In 2006 I married my boyfriend of many years, my wedding was smaller but all the same people were invited (from my side of the family and family friends) most of them didn't even show, let alone send gifts. For the most part it went unnoticed. I received some cards, maybe 50 dollars and some cheesy fruit basket. Its not the gifts I really care about, but the attention my brothers wedding received. I have been working very very hard to not seem jaded and I believe no one notices. But the difference is so bad my brother even apologized to me because he noticed. I have considered that people may not have paid as much attention because I was with my husband for 9 years before we married (we started dating at 16) so no one was surprised about our engagement. But my brother and his wife had been together almost as long. So now my head spins over why people didn't care about my marriage. Does my family think less of me and my husband? Have I done something to upset them? My brother is an excellent mechanic, he fixes everyone's cars for free so maybe its that, but I also try to always be there when people need help too (I just can't fix a car). I have never considered myself petty, so please don't think it is the gifts alone I'm jealous about. But how can there be such an obvious difference in support between two siblings?

People are weird aren't they?! My late Grandmother adored all of her Grandchildren, and had a special soft spot for me as I am the eldest. For my wedding she and my Grandfather (who had served as an RAF Officer for nearly 30 years, so they weren't hard up!) gave us an electric carving knife (with which we were delighted). A year later for my cousin's wedding (equally loved by my Grandparents, and we are close) they gave an all expenses paid honeymoon to Italy! Go figure! You sound like a really nice person, perhaps you didn't make a big thing of the wedding, or perhaps people thought 'she's nice, I don't have to break the bank to impress her!'. There is the expression 'the squeaky wheel gets the grease' and certainly my cousin made a great big song and dance about her wedding, probably prompting the bigger gifts. That may well be what happened to you.

Easter quilt?

any ideas for an easy easter quilt? I'ld like to make an Easter quilt or stuffed bunny for Easter gifts. I can't seem to find a free pattern, maybe an easter flower basket or an easter table runner or something creative. Thanks in advance.

For a quilt (or table runner, etc.), fabric choice is the most important thing. You could turn just about any block into an Easter quilt simply by using pastel fabrics, or novelty fabrics with rabbits or eggs on them. Try a table runner made from three or four basket blocks - all the same, or different baskets. Browse though the blocks at Quilter's Cache - there are over a thousand free block patterns, with great instructions and illustrations. You could also look for blocks with lilies or paper pieced bunnies and eggs. Eggs would look nice in a pastel batik fabric - like they'd been dyed.

So every year I put together Christmas baskets as gifts... this year, seeing how I am now 21, I decided it would be fun to do champagne baskets. My idea was to create hand painted glasses with a nice bottle of champagne. I guess I am just looking for more ideas! Anything helps!! Thanks!

well i think that is a really nice idea. But you could also try maybe doing rum cakes with it. People tend to really enjoy them. Other themes, if your looking for would be- Movies- a movie, w/ popcorn, candy, maybe a nice wine(?) Winter- Hot cocoa, mug, marshmallows, etc. Cookies- Just a bunch of great homemade cookies Scrap-booking- Make small scrapbook filled with pictures, add litttle mementos, special to the specific recipient. The thing is, I'm looking for desserts that can be packaged in small ziplocks or plastic wrap to make a healthy dessert variety basket for Valentines. I'll take any ideas! What should I include in this gift?

Ok, so one of my good friends is having a baby in January & she is a teen mom. We used to be best friends, we still kind of are but we are just close. Anyways she doesn't know the sex yet but it is universal. I want to get a really big basket and put either a huge blue or pink bow at the top and put clothes, bibs, bottles, blankets, generally anything cute and needed. I love giving presents! And I do have time so I would love ideas. I was a teen mum and everything helps. Baby gear is very expensive too. Bottles, bibs nappies/ diapers photo album ( comes in handy ) small rattle/ toy blanket. As soon as you walk down a baby isle in a shop there will be loads to choose from.
