Crazy month of gift giving, and IM BROKE? What should I do?
I have four gifts in the month of June to get. My husband and I just moved, so we are broke! I have to get something for mom, my grandma, little cousin who is turning two, and a friends baby shower. My top priorites are my mom of course, my little cousin dosn't need anything huge because her parents never gave me anything when I was growing up, and she is only 2! I never usually get my grandma anything, so I guess that maybe a card would do...maybe a 10 dollar gift card..if you think that is enough, and I'm not sure for the baby shower. This girl isnt really a good friend of mine, but her husband and mine work together, and I don't want to weird and show up with nothing. She has a baby registry, so I will go off of that, and than maybe put everthing in a basket with those little travel baby shampoos or something. But, any other ideas! My mom loves books, and going out to lunch..she is always busy and stressed with work too, so something that would help her would be nice...but, of course..im on a budget because of all the gifts. I don't want to spend over 100 dollars on all the gifts.

How many in here get something from the Easter bunny?
We didn't celebrate the Easter Bunny back home, just the day Jesus rose, so the Saturday evening celebration was big with my family. Now that I have kids, they expect Easter bunny gifts. I just put some chocolates and little knick knacks in a small basket, but their friends' parents treat their kids as if it was Santa Claus again!
--------------------
I am concerned about that too.I want my kids to understand it is about Jesus and not bunnies. I will give them Easter baskets and an egg hunt but that is about it.

Does Gift Giving Always Come From the Heart.?
One time I got a small soap and shampoo in a packaged basket worth about $2 the most. To me I felt greatly offended. I even heard one of the people in the background say: "I need to take a shower." Ok. I take no offense, but if gift giving comes from the heart, which I believe it does regardless if a person smells or not, would YOU give a gift like this to someone and then people snicker and make fun of. Example: Let's say Jane had bad teeth, and I'm talking need braces or straightening, and I gave her a toothbrush and toothpaste as a gift, wouldn't that be demeaning and sad to her??? I think it would.
--------------------
Some people are just plain mean, they should stop and think before they do stuff like that. We had a girl that worked with us she was in foster care even though she was an adult as she was missing a couple neurons. She had never really been taught to care for herself. Someone gave her soap, deodorant, shampoo, and something else. She was so sweet she thought they got them for her because she didn't make as much money as the others. There were snickers and remarks behind her back and she over heard some of them. I found her sitting in the hall crying. I'm not one who has a very good control on my mouth. I tied into the worse offenders and then made up my mind she needed to have someone teach her. We took her to lunch on Saturday and then back to her place. We showed her the different things and explained their use and what they did. She was amazed. The foster home she was raised in as a child only allowed them to bathe once a week, she thought that was normal. They always used the cheapest bar soap to wash with and wash their hair. She wasn't allowed to use deodorant because it was expensive. Those people did her so much injustice. Once she knew she had been taught all kinds of wrong things she started learning on her own. With in one year she was able to advance to living on her own. She still works for the same company, she's learned to do some other jobs there and makes more money now. She also married a man from another group home and they are very happy. They have no children because she knew they could have problems too, I am so happy for her. I had a bad spell with my teeth, we had something in our systems that caused the teeth to go hollow. My dad had full dentures by the time he was 21, my sisters I think were 23 and 27. I managed to hold on to most of mine till I was in my late thirties, then they just fell apart. I also had one other problem, novocaine, nor any of the other things like that work on me. I always had to go to an oral surgeon so work could be done. It cost 5 times what a regular dentist did and we didn't have coverage. For a few years I was somewhat snaggle-toothed. My family doctor said I was starting to have an irregular heart rhythm, he decided it was from the toxins of my teeth. (I had no clue bad theeth could affect the heart). He put me in the hospital and took the ones I had left all at once. Six weeks later I had my plates and no more trouble with my heart. Like I said I have no trouble using my mouth so when something was said about my teeth I explained and asked if they would like to make a donation to help me get them fixed. That shut them up. Your very right about how inconsiderate some folks can be, I would never give a gift like that. I never even gave one of those fancy bubblebath and soap baskets they sell. When I give a gift I try to think about what that person is like, what they like and what would mean something to them. I think you must be a very nice person to think about how others would feel and have the guts to ask the question. May you have a Merry Christmas and may your New Year be Very Happy.

chirstmas gift for my boyfriend. ideas?
I was looking for something for my boyfriend's Christmas gift. The budget for me is around $40-45 dollars. (his birthday is Thursday and I spent around $50 dollars on him. Then our 1 year was a little bit ago and I spent around $100. So I figured around $40-45 would be fine...because I'm only 15 and that is the amount i have left...) Any ideas on gifts that will only be around that much? I've gotten him shirts, jackets, belts, xbox games, candy, hats, baked goods, a journal (he writes), funny cards, homemade cards, and a themed goody basket which was a movie theme for our one year (he asked me out at the movies). So I went to the mall and I realized I didn't have to many ideas...I want to do something new ish kinda ya know? I need ideas from guys on what if they have or had a girlfriend what they'd want. I know it's the thought that counts and it should have meaning but I really am having hard time with this! So just cool ideas on gifts or something would be helpful. Thanks! Happy Holidays, Megan

Is a basket of edible treats a suitable Eid gift?
I want to give an Eid present to a Muslim co-worker (who's a dear friend) and her family. I know that Muslims cannot have anything containing alcohol or non-halal animal products (like gelatine or lard). My friend has also found out that she's lactose intolerant. I have started putting together a basket of food goodies - can anyone tell me if these would be acceptable (or has any other suggestions)? - Bottle of alcohol-free sparkling elderflower presse drink - Home-made fruit and nut cookies (no animal fats) - Dairy-free chocolates from the health store - Home-made spiced pineapple chutney
--------------------
sounds all pretty good to me. most muslims example from morocco love love love a type of cake i have only seen made in italian bakeries , it is layers of crispy filo dough very as long as it doesnt have the pork, enzymes or geletin or lard, animal rennet. i am not sure on the flower drink , never heard of it., just remember you dont have to go to extremes , we can eat all you eat and drink all you drink as long as it doesnt contain the animal and pork ingredients and no alcohol of course. but most muslims dont like drinks to look or resemble wine. so if the flower drink comes in a wine looking bottel as sparkling cider and most fruit juices for holidays come she probably wont drink it. trust me i love the white sparking grape from welches in the wine bottle, and my husband refuses to buy it, he had a fit when my friend gave us some cider in the fancy wine bottle . when they left he dumped it out because the bottle resembled wine. even though our friends who gave it to us were muslim and of course no alchohol.

Christmas Present for 17 Year Old?
My sister is 17 and I am 13 and we are really tight, but I have no idea what to buy her for Christmas! I can't think of anything that's in my price range, because I am working on paying for half of a Macbook, so I won't have much money to spare. Please let me know what a good, cheap present is, even a gift basket with things inside (but what to put inside?). Thanks!

I need some cheap, creative but at the same time romatice ideas?
Valentines day is just around the coner, and I am looking for some cheap, creative but at the same time romatic ideas for gifts. Im thinking about making a big basket off things that he could use. Im not sure if it would work. I have a $20 limit, so anything in that range would work.

A basket is a good idea. Here's some things to put in it: Make a bunch of origami hearts (ehow) and folded roses (bloom4ever) and fill a 'love jar' with a love note. While this is a project to do with kids, it doesn't matter - it's a cute idea: http://www.education.com/activity/articl Laminate a photo of the two of you, made into a bookmark - so it can be a few small pics or just one, glue it to construction paper with hearts, then hole punch the top and put a piece of twine though the hole and tie a knot in it. Make Cookies Quick Banana Chocolate Chip Bars 1 Medium Ripe Banana, peeled 1 Cup Whole Wheat Flour ¾ Cup Brown Sugar, packed 1 Teaspoon Baking Powder ½ Teaspoon Ground Cinnamon ¼ Teaspoon Salt 1/3 Cup Olive or Vegetable Oil 2 Tablespoons Milk 1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract 1 Egg ¼ Cup Chopped Nuts (optional) ½ Cup Chocolate Chips (or what feels good) Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray small rectangular or 9x9 square baking pan with non-stick spray. Chop or mash banana. Combine with flour, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, salt, oil, milk, vanilla and egg in large bowl. Stir in nuts and chocolate chips to this mixture OR save them to add as topping, sprinkling on top of mixture after poured into the pan. Bake for 25-30 minutes. Isabellas (Oatmeal Cookies) 1 cup butter 1/2 cup sugar 1 tsp vanilla 1 1/4 cups flour 1 1/2 cups oats Dash salt, optional Powdered Sugar Cream butter and sugar until light. Mix in vanilla, then flour, oats and salt. Chill thoroughly. Shape into small balls and place 2 inches apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Flatten with a fork, crisscrossing. Bake at 350 degrees for 12-18 minutes (depending on your oven). Sprinkle with Powdered Sugar

Attention guys!! What do you like for Valentines day?
I was contemplating making a gift basket with some candy, some good imported beer, candles, massage oils, maybe a stuffed animal? Does any of this stuff sound corny or would you like it? I need some imput! Any suggestions?
--------------------
I know I'm not a guy, and you didn't ask for my opinion.... but I think you may want to nix the stuffed animal. The only stuffed animal ANY guy ever kept was my husband. He kept a stuffed frog that I got him eight years ago. It was our first holiday together and he kept it for sentimental value. It's stuffed in a closet right now. All of the other stuffed animals I got him (a total of two after the frog) were quickly taken to the local youth center to be played with by kids. Candles, definately no for a guy. If you are going to do anything for a guy, order him a sweet steak and/or lobster dinner, have it delivered to your house. Have an ice cold beer waiting for him while you are wearing next to nothing (if you are of age to do that). That would get his Valentine juices flowing anytime. Hope this helps!

Home Based Chocolate Buisness VS. Home Based Wedding Cake & Dessert Buisness & Doggie Cakes & Cookies?
Hello Everyone. I seriously am in need of some "Positive" feedback on this subject. I am going to be taking both chocolate classes and going to be on a list for bakery and pastry nine month program, for a 2 year wait. In the meantime.. I plan to take a short certification course for ten months, in small buisness enterperneurship, to teach me the ins and outs and basics, as well, and 2-3 web design classes, as I am in line to get into this program. I am also.. planning on attending three wilton classes as well as instructor certification, while waiting too. I need to learn while I wait. I would appreciate the input you all can give to me. I am wanting to make money, but.. keeping the business at home and mabe....internet. I want to become the best I can be. Perhaps even incorporate doggie gift basket, birthday cakes, and pastry baskets to be sold the day of. Mabe even breads, with wines if.. I can get lisenced to do so. Do I need to specialize?

Gift Ideas?
I'm putting together what i think is a kinda cool gift for my boss, its all things that i can find that someone wants to try or that someone wouldn't buy for themselves for example... Tide clothing pen most people would like to try it but wont put out 4bucks for it... i also got her a cool umbrella that fits in to a case that's only 10inches.... however i cant think of 1. more things like that to add to it and 2. How i should display and give it to her. any ideas of somthing cool or uniqic that kinda does the ol' basket trip but a modern verson???

A cute way to gift a collection of small things is the "inside the balloon" method. (Walmart does this). Tying the items onto the ends of ballon strings, making a baloon bouquet is nice too. You might include a jar of jewelry cleaner, like they sell in shops, travel nail kit (my boss can NEVER find a file in her bag) small flashlight that goes on your keyring, travel size bottles of tylenol and motrin that she can refill, small bottle of hand sanitizer that she can refill. I'd like to have you as a co-worker!

What should I bring my host family in Costa Rica?
They live on a small farm. There is a mother who is 38, and we are considering bringing her an apron from Anthropologie, which are about 38 dollars, and very nice. The husband is a driver, and he is 45, I don't know what to bring him. There is an 18 year old boy, and again, I don't know what to bring him. There is a 12 year old girl, should i bring her something like nail polish, or slippers( cute girly ones)? And last, there is an 8 year old girl, and I am thinking to get her something similar to what I get the 12 year old. And last, I am thinking to get them a family gift of linens or towels. My mom lived in a foreign country, and was poor when she was young, so she thinks towels would be nice. It is most likely that the family is very poor, so I will NOT be bringing candy or coffee, or gift baskets, I would like to bring something nice and useful. Also, I'm a girl and 14, if it makes a difference. thank you
--------------------
Well that sound great. For the 18 year old I dont really know, but for the girls you could go with some nice clothes and maybe yes nail polish or some stuff for the hair. Towels sound like a good idea as a family gift. Enjoy and good luck!!

I need answers please!!!! Did the food I canned rott?? What should I do??? Please read and answer!!!?
About 2-3 weeks ago I canned a bunch of stuff for christmas gift baskets. I filled them with the canned good (jams, pickles & spag sauce) about 2 weeks ago and put them in the closet. In the last 3 days I have noticed a really nasty smell in my room and just narrowed it down to a jar of spag. sauce that was leaking. It does have meat in it that was cooked ahead of time, then processed. Everyone said I could process it and didn't need a pressure cooker. Now I don't know if I should take the other 11 out of the baskets or what. They all look fine, but are they any good?? Will they be good 2 months from now when I give them out?? How can I tell if they are good or not??
--------------------
When you give them out and they come back to you next year......LOL! I am just joking!.....Honey if the one went bad it is proably because it was leaking. Now if the other ones are not leaking I do not think you should have a problem. There are speghetti sauces that are stored in jars on the shelves. They are not fridgerated at the stores. Some of them are in cans and jars. They aren't bad! I think you will be fine. What you could do is say to the people, well you know this is the first time I have ever tried doing this with this type of food before. So please let me know how it turns out. Letting them know you have never done it before will make them check it before they stick it in their mouth. Just because of the fear it was your first try. How many times are you so willing to put something in your mouth when you found out it was there first time cooking it. Wondering if they done it correctly????.....I know I am very careful. Besides if it is bad then they will smell it as soon as they open the jar. I am sure they would let you know what happens and then you will know weather you should do it again or not! But to be honest with you I think they will be fine. Now what you can do is open one jar now and check it out and see if it is bad! If it is then ditch them, but if it is good you know they are keepers!

I am writing a thank you note to veterinarians and other organizations ?
I volunteer for a local humane society and every year we give appreciation gifts to various local veterinarians and a couple of businesses who have helped us with adoptions. This year we decided to give a Valentine's thank you gift baskets (filled with various homemade cookies, fudge, etc.) I found some cards that say "Happy Valentine's" and on the front it has a picture of a Rottweiler dog in the center of a heart and inside the cards are blank. I was wondering if this sounded ok or if there are any other suggestions. This is what I want to write in the cards: The volunteers at the (I will put our humane society name here) want to give a heartfelt thank you for all of your time, care and compassion towards our many animal orphan friends.
--------------------
Sounds very nice, and that's great that you volunteer to help out and give love to the animals in shelters. I was going to try my hand at making homemade healthy treats for my dog, Cindy a rescued Pit Bull mix. I haven't actually tried it yet, but it sounds like a nice idea for the businesses that you want to thank. You can make kitty treats too! There are recipes online, and some suggestions too would be peanut butter, brewers yeast, soup stock as your base made w/bones from your butcher or grocery store, brown rice, & garlic powder/not gar.salt( picky dogs are supposed to love gar.powd.) You can even place the treats on platters like the Valentine cookie tray to make it look cute accompanied by the rottweiler card. I don't know if that's something that interests you, but if you do try it maybe you can let me know how they turn out or give me any good suggestions you learned?

All my fault... how can I fix this soon?
This year my mom and I are making Christmas gift baskets for our family friends. My mom said she really want to make one for her one friend's family, but she said we aren't going to because I don't like their son. I tried explaining to her that we were friends, but then we grew apart and now I switched schools. I want to try being friends with him again, but I'm not sure if he acts the same. Its makes it even more difficult because I rumors were spread around that I liked him, but I wasn't really sure. He heard all of that so I also think that's going to make trying to talk to him and be friends kinda awkward. My brother and most of my friends still go to the school and the next time I'll see him is Tuesday. His parents are really nice to me and I really want to be able to give them their Christmas gift. Any Advice?

face youre fear and talk to him, then if you're friends make the basket. its as simple as that

Also, I'm a girl and 14, if it makes a difference. thank you

I would suggest toys for the girls, especially if they are poor this is something that they probably don't have a lot of them. Something traditional for your home country/cultural might be nice or you could go with dolls, or a stuff animal...Or even something like jumping ropes or chalk could be fun, and you could teach the girls songs/games that they play from where you are at. ie. A good gift and a cultural sharing experience. I would try and be unique and think of things that they do not have where you are going. I would not rule out chocolate and candy either, if they do not have much money these things are probably a luxury that they rarely or never get to experience. When I was in Africa I shared some toffee with the local kids, and you should have seen how their faces lit up! It was an experience, but it wasn't a practical object they could use, you're right there. Could you ask them what they need? As for a family gift towels or linens are nice, maybe with a theme that is again representative of you, or country or heritage. I would also suggest maybe bring a flag or magnet that represents your home country for them...I brought wind chimes with Canadian flags for my host family in Korea and they were a big hit, they put them outside there window. Stickers are always nice too, depending on what is available. With gifts I have also tried to get things that they people would not buy themselves (because of money and having to meet basic needs first) could not buy themselves because of the design/symbols/ect on it, or could be used to share culture. Another idea is to buy the family gift in country that why you have a chance to get to know the family and see what they like and/or need. For the boy, maybe books, a picture or model of a car/other "boyish" things. Another thing do they speak English? If they do English books magazines are probably hard to come by, and if they don't maybe get they some workbooks for beginners so they learn and practice there English. Good Luck gift choosing is always hard, I hope I was of some help...and just remember it is the thought that counts and no matter what you get them they will be very appreciative of the fact that you took the time to pick something out for them.

How do you give a bottle of wine?
My parents always get wine as a gift for Christmas, Easter, their anniversary, etc. They aren't really particular about the taste. They receive so many bottles and don't really prefer one over another. I wanted to do some red wine/ cheese/ cracker gift baskets for my in-laws and I suggested it to my boss who in response asked me if I knew what type of red wine they drank. I don't know though. Since I am not a wine drinker I'm not sure of these things. Does it really matter what type of red wine or are certain ones better/worse? Are people really particular about the wine they drink? Can I just ask the employees at the liquor store what they suggest? Do I have to find out their preference or can I just go to the store and see what they suggest?
--------------------
You never go wrong if you buy the expensive wines from France, Italy and also California. It would be very enlightening if you try to find out the preferences of people that you intend to give the wine. Wines have so many varieties or classes, and it could be confusing sometimes. But to make things simple, just try the red and the white varieties. So there you are. Of course, you can also ask suggestions from the store what to buy, say as to the most bought wines or most tasty and classy ones. Good luck to you.
