Any ideas of how to surprise my mentor?
My mentor is the high school foot ball coach and I'm now a 23 year old student at job corps he basically was my dad when I was going through high school. Do you think this is a cute idea for a present for my friend?
It's my friends fourteenth birthday, and I'm going to get a basket, and go to the Dollar store and fill it up with random, cute stuff. THEN, right in the middle, there's going to be a 30 dollar gift card to the mall. Is that stupid?
--------------------
Yeah, that's pretty good. However, it depends on what the random stuff is, if it's just stuff that you just threw from the shelf to the basket without looking at it, it would be a load of crap. But the mall gift card is a good idea, though.

Need a business name?
I'm starting a gift basket business and all the good names are taken.I'm starting in my home but will hopefully soon have a store. Please help I really like The Treasure Basket but it's taken..among others
--------------------
Why don't you just reverse it then? Baskets of Treasure, or even Treasury Baskets. What about Basket full of gifts? And why would you take on the overhead of a store front? Have you checked the prices on retail space? It would be considerably less expensive to remodel a portion of your house and have your store there. Plus the tax advantages would be significant. http://webintel.mobi

Horrible at giving gifts -- what do guys REALLY want?
My man isn't the traditional "guys" guy. He works in internet advertising. He's into movies, music, entertainment, likes "nice" things. Not that into sports or beer, but more meaningful gifts. He has all the latest electronics. He has a watch, has a wallet, briefcase, shaving set, clothes, etc. So....I'm stumped. For Valentine's day, I framed an article his business was featured in from a business journal. I'm going to make a gift basket and include lingerie, candy, massage oil; I'm also starting a scrapbook and thought about making a page dedicated to "us" and all the reasons why I love him. BUT he goes above and beyond every holiday; he gets me jewelry or does something really special. I feel like my gifts never measure up. Do you think this is a good idea? What do guys REALLY want? (Besides sex, I'm talking gift-wise)
--------------------
The lingerie and massage oil should cover it especially if you put them to good use. All the rest is window dressing. Lucky guy.

Giving Gifts to Boss...Poor Taste?
I am an independent contractor who has worked for the same man for about 1 1/2 years now. Around Christmas, he sent me some chocolates, which I thanked him for. I sent him a small gift basket, and heard nothing back about it. I figured he was just busy....About a week ago, his wife gave birth, so I sent a small gift to him and his family...and didn't hear anything back. I asked him yesterday thru email if he received a package from me, and he completely ignored the question. Now I'm worried I offended him in some way...is it in poor taste to send small gifts like that to a boss? We have a good working relationship, but perhaps he sees it as a bribe? Any thoughts?
--------------------
I think it is in very proper taste to send a gift. And I would have done the same thing you did - if you don't get a thank you from him then I'd want to know if he received it. Because it could have been delivered to the wrong person, and then you'd never know. It sounds like he is the one who is short on manners.

Dont have a lot of money, Christmas gift ideas for BIG family?
My family is HUGE. Living in my house alone I have 3 siblings, a mom, and a step dad. And then outside of my home (but still very close) are 2 uncles, 2 aunts, 2 grandmas (one great grandma), and 3 cousins. Last year I put together baskets for every household with little things (Cups with hot chocolate mix inside. on card I wrote "For a grandma so dear, have yourself a cup of cheer..a rice krispy treat - for someone so sweet, have yourself a special treat).. The baskets did not cost me a lot of money. I need the same sourt of thing this year. Something that I can make kinda personal .. but that isnt expensive. Any ideas would be great. I was thinking of baking cookies and muffins and breads for everyone but my mom and I do that every year anyways.
--------------------
Maybe next year you guys could do a gift exchange, but for this year. I'll be customizing some pictures at Target and giving those as gifts, making photo collages, photo calendars ect...

Ideas for a horse-related polyanna gift?
So my barn is having its annual christmas party at my trainer's house. We're doing a Pollyanna. We drew names today. I'm stumped as to what I should get, so I need some creative ideas. The girl has her own pony (palomino halflinger) named Daisy. The girl herself is... somewhere between 10 and 12. I know shes not older than 12, but defiantly not younger than 10. I was thinking about getting her a Breyer horse, but then I thought that shes only a few years younger than me and I wouldn't really want a horse figurine thingy. The price range is between 10 and 25 maybe 30 dollars. Then I thought maybe a grooming kit thingy- everyone can always use new brushes and stuff. Maybe like a little basket with a brush, curry comb, hoof pick, lead line, sweat scraper, maybe even a crop. Theres an equine store that has cheap grooming stuff that'll last a while. Or, I though of a gift card... but I don't want to seem like im lazy and don't care. So any ideas would be greatly appreciated!! (PS- I cant get a halter for the pony... I know that the girl, Madi, just got her a brand new really nice leather one. =) ) Thanks!
--------------------
I think a grooming kit would be kind of cool. You could put it in a basket and tie a christmas bow around it and make it look festive. Also, you could not only put stuff in there for her horse, but for her as well. Maybe like some bottles of bright nailpolish, make some cookies and put them in there, stuff like that. You could also put some horse treats in there too.

Is this a good gift for a college student?
My fiance sisters are in college. Age 20 & 18. I wanted to get a laundry basket & fill it with shampoo, conditioner, shave gel, razors, tampons, body wash, a towel, a washcloth, body lotion. maybe a bag of chips or other fun cheap (but nice stuff) I find For the 20 year old a small bottle of vodka (she turns 21 5 days before xmas) Some other small cute things we find. We want to spend around $20 on each of them. Would that be an ok gift or would it be a rip off? I already got 2 huge bottles of shampoo for $2.50 & 2 huge bottles conditioner for $2.50. That I can split in between them. But if its a bad idea I can use them myself.
--------------------
It sounds like a good gesture and it will be appreciated. You will make a good sister in law.

He just got an X-Box 360. Would this be a good gift for his birthday? (details inside)?
My boyfriend's birthday is this coming Monday and I wanted to take him out to eat and go to the comedy club but we're both now on a diet and our local comedy club has gone to hell in a hand basket recently. Instead, since he got his very own X-Box 360 last week and is just sooooo excited about it (I can't get his eyes off it!) I was thinking a good gift would be to get him 2 more controllers for it so when Halo 3 comes out later this year he can play it with his buddies (among other multi-player games). I know those controllers are pretty expensive (about $50 a piece I think) which is why I'm only getting 2 and not 3! Besides, he's worth it. I only spent $80 on him for our 1 year anniversary last month after he spent $200 and I still feel quilty about it (even though he said he didn't want me to spend that much on him). Would the two controllers be a good gift?
--------------------
Yeah. My fiance has an xbox360 and he can't wait. What good is any Halo with one player? I think buying the controllers is an awesome gift. It doesn't always have to be a mushy emotional gift. If it is something that he really wants and is going to need, then where can you go wrong?

how to eat thuringer/beef summer sausages?
i got a 'sparrer's thuringer summer sausage' and 'sparrer beef summer sausage' as part of a gift basket. how do i eat it? (do i fry it etc.)

slice thin, lay it on some nice bread and add some spicy brown mustard, a slice or 2 of your favorite cheese and you have a sandwich! It is also great with crackers, in a pasta salad with lots of veggies and diced sausage and cheese and Italian dressing. this stuff is fully cooked and very tasty. You can fry it though, which is also good.

Appropriate thank you gift for immigration lawyer?
My immigration lawyer has been very helpful in processing my green card. Next week, I'll have my interview and hopefully my status will be approved. My husband and I are just college students, but we would still like to give a meaningful and wonderful thank you gift. My budget would be about $100. I was thinking to give her a box of gourmet chocolate, but I'm not sure what her diet restriction is. She seems to be a very fit and sophisticated person. I have some options in my mind, but I'm not sure if they're appropriate: a crystal figurine from Swarovski, a gift certificate to one of the city's best spa, fruit basket, a box of goodies from L'Occitane. My husband thinks they're too "weird", but not give any input ... Any other ideas?
--------------------
I've dealt with immigration lawyers before, and I've never felt a reason to give them a present at all. The present they received was being extremely overpaid just to put together a few papers, or pass it on to their assistants. That's cool that they made that good of an impression on you, though. Thing is, they're not expecting anything from you but that big check. So anything you give them will do...probably something that will last, that they can put on their desk would work. So the crystal figurine would be cool.

Great gift for new parents?
My sister and brother in law will be having their first baby at the end of this month! we wont be able to visit them when the baby arrives but would like to send a nice/unique gift! what would be something you would have loved to have gotten when your baby arrived?? i was thinking a dean and deluca or harry and david basket...?? we'll spend up to $100..
--------------------
The last thing new parents want is a basket of overpriced food. The most useful gift we ever got after having a baby was crib sheets, burp rags, and clothes. The more you have of those items, the less you have to wash them. When you have a baby you go through sheets/rags/clothes constantly which means you are constantly having to wash them. But if you're wanting to get the parents a gift for themselves, try a gift card to a nice hotel and a promise to babysit when they get around to using it. The other thing parents want after having a baby is time to themselves.

If I want to raise money for my nephew's medical bills, do I have to form a non profit organization?
My 16 month old nephew was recently diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis and their insurance is refusing to cover $15,000 worth of RSV vaccinations that he needs to have. I want to host a trivia night (rent a hall, or hopefully have one donated) with gift baskets to bid on, a 50/50 raffle, and a cash prize for the winner of the trivia contest (split half and half between my nephew and the winners). The proceeds would go to help pay his medical bills. However, I'm not sure I can do this without legal issues and tax problems. Does anyone know? Thank you so much!

You might easiest find a fraternal org., like an Eagle's, Moose, Elk, AMVETS, VFW or other such club to offer you their facilities for nothing or cheaply. Organize a benefit and do the activities you mentioned. Learn about 'poker runs' for motorcycle fanatics. You'd be amazed how great bikers are when it comes to helping raise money. They pay a fee to get a poker hand by going form location o location, and the winner will often donate some or all of his winnings to the cause. You may look on craigslist for a DJ who might perform for a reduced fee, or for free, like on a Saturday afternoon or a Sunday ( I am a DJ and have done probably 15 of them FREE). It's good publicity for the DJ and they can also raise tips to donate. Any of the fraternal clubs i mentioned can clue you in on pertinent state laws. I wish you the best of luck. Feel free to IM or mail me if I can help further.
