What is a good arts&entertainment themed white elephant gift?

I'm taking part in a white elephant christmas exchange with my boyfriend's family. The limit is $30 and the presents should be gender neutral and must be Arts&Entertainment themed. Any ideas? I'd like to maybe do a basket or something instead of just buying 2 random DVD's and calling it a day.
--------------------
Tickets to a museum, the zoo, or a mini golf and go cart venues are also entertainment. Local theatre plays can be affordable as well. Check into School featured productions, such as dance schools, ice skating and music school concerts. Tours of chocolate stores such a Bernard Callebaut are generally free so give $30.00 gift certificate from the chocolatier to spend on chocolate. (totally entertaining and delicious!) Hope this helps.

Sympathy gift help...?

The woman that I used to babysit for about 13 years ago called to let me know that her mother-in-law passed away. The kids I used to babysit are pretty much grown up now and I haven't seen them in ages. I still am in occasional contact with their mother (the one that called). I don't know the proper etiquette for handling this situation. Ideally, I'd like to just send a gift basket to their house but they are expensive and we are on a tight budget. The fact that she called made me feel obligated for something. Is sending JUST a condolence card too tacky? I am unable to attend the wake so I cannot just ignore the situation. PLEASE ADVISE!
--------------------
a condolence card will do just fine....with a note from you expressing your heartfelt condolence.....you don't have to do more then that......one of my brothers just passed away.....we got cards from people he used to know from back in the day when he was in high school and college.....it was a nice of them to do that and that they remembered him

I've discovered this website that turns photos into beautiful hand-made paintings and the prices are really affordable too. My wife gave me a gift basket this morning, it had cologne, aftershave, body wash and DEODORANT. What am I?

supposed to think of this? TWO sticks of deodorant! Who gives someone DEODORANT for Valentine's Day? I didn't say anything besides Thank You, and she didn't smile or anything.
--------------------
That's sweet! I'm sure she put allot of thought in that and she is just trying to show you that she's thinking of you and cares about you. Besides we all know how difficult it can be to buy any type of gift for a guy especially on a mushy day like Valentines. Buy her something special and take her out somewhere special, show her that you appreciate all that she is to you. Take Care

Do any of you have Ideas for creative cheerleading gifts!!!?

In about 3 weeks our Cheerleading Squad is going to camp. We each have to bring gifts for the rest of the squad.(there are 13 of us,all girls) I want something thats creative, yet cheap. Do any of you have any ideas? This is my first year as a cheerleader and I really don't want to bring a lame gift/gifts. People in past years have brought: picture frames, gift baskets ect....
--------------------
Use a variety of beads in your school/squad colors to make bracelets for each person. At Hobby Lobby or Michaels crafts stores, you can even find small charms befitting of most any toopic (cheerleading- pompoms, megaphone, the word "cheer", etc.) to add to each bracelet. Another idea is to make decorated shoelaces for each person. Get plain white laces and decorate with team/squad colors by using puff paints...just make simple dots or dashes down the length of each, or write "Cheer!" repeatedly. Tie-dying them would be neat, too. This craft would be so cheap, that you could probably give everyone a couple sets! One more- what about making a small "sit-upon" for each person. It would be super easy. Just get printed flannel that matches your team colors (the kind that's used for blankets) and measure two pieces the size you need for sitting plus six inches. Cut fringes or notches about one inch wide around all edges. Place a peice of cotton batting between the two pieces; match the fringes together and tie knots to "sew" them together. Each person has their own "sit-upon" for the upcoming season!

Where can I purchase fresh (non tropical) fruit online and have it delivered to family in...?

...Hawaii? I'm in New Zealand. I've found places that will deliver fruit gift baskets, but am hoping for an online grocery store, or personal shopper service to stretch the money a bit further. Thanks so much. :-)
--------------------
Right now and for the next month or so strawberries are where it's at (even at the local grocery store, we're buying them for well under a dollar a pound). In a couple weeks, though, blueberries come into season. And then come July raspberries, apricots, plums, and peaches. http://www.hollabaughbros.com/Fruit_Char… http://www.hollabaughbros.com/Fruit_Char… The thing is just about any kind of fruit that grows anywhere can be grown on Hawaii. Some varieties just aren't grown there that often because of land use restrictions which hamper overcoming even the most simple complications in growing. And most of the good stuff that's worth shipping out to Hawaii in apples and pears isn't really available until fall harvest. It's really best to buy the stuff from a US supplier if you're going to send it to Hawaii. The import regulations for food into the US are pretty convoluted so even if you find someone outside the US who will ship bulk produce to Hawaii, you'll get charged just a huge amount of money.

Gift for my mom! HELP!!!?

So I have no clue what to get my mom for christmas!!! I'm thinking of doing a gift basket type thing. So far I'm putting in... Apple Scented Oil ( my mom loves apple scent) Nights in Rodanthe ( Big Nicolas Sparks fan) Then I'm lost after that!! Please respond with suggestions. My mom's really practical and doesn't like frivolous gifts. I would like to keep the gift under $40-$50. Thanks!
--------------------
Chocolate, girl, that should have been #1!!! How about some warm cozy slippers. Hand cream, body lotion, candles. How about her favorite lipstick? Even if she's practical most women enjoy nice gifts. My mom is no frills too but loves coffee so I'm getting her a freshly ground gourmet bag from a coffee shop.

What do you use baby oil for?

I recently had a baby, and was given several bottles of baby oil in gift baskets. I don't use it for my baby ... what else can I use it for?
--------------------
Personally, I use it for woodworking. A lot of people use mineral oil for a wood finish, but the stuff is kind of expensive. It turns out that baby oil is just mineral oil plus fragrance and is a lot cheaper. Now the bowls and other decorative pieces I make have that "new baby" smell.

I need the perfect Good Luck (Merde) gift for my boyfriend!?

In december, when I had just started seeing him, my boyfriend performed in The Nutcracker. I sent him a Nutcracker gift basket to wish him luck, or as dancers say, Merde. Next, his ballet company is performing Sleeping Beauty, and I need ideas on something cute to get him. Any inspirations, or ideas about where I can go to get him something?
--------------------
Lucky girl, ballet guys are hot! Knit him warm-ups, that would be an awesome thing to do. Nureyev was never seen without his on until right before he went on. Sew the word Merde into his shoes, in red, since the Chinese believe it's good luck. Make him a good luck dinner FULL of carbs and protein the night before opening. Energy and love from you! That should stay with him alright!

How do you cheer up a friend going through a divorce?

My close friend/colleague is currently going through a divorce. Needless to say, she is devastated and I feel so bad for her. One of my colleagues suggested we put together a "Divorce Break-Up" gift basket (of course we wouldn't call it that) to cheer her up. We were thinking about putting bath salts, a bottle of wine, a manicure/pedicure gift certificate, slippers, chocolate, etc. in it. What other items should we include? Any suggestions would be truly appreciated! Thank you. :)
--------------------
I think the basket is a great idea... Everyone loves a gift, it'll put a smile on anyone's face. Chocolate is such a mood booster.. especially dark chocolate.. dark rich pure slightly higher priced wonderful cheer up chocolate .. mmmmm.... I know all too well the benefits of that simple luxury. Bath salts, that's great.. try some handmade soap with it.. go for lavender and peppermint that are good for calming. Pleasant smells.. good for the senses.. ahhh, thinking of my own salts and soaps that await me every night make me want to take my steaming bath now. Get some candles and suggest she turn the lights out.. and soak.. Bring it to her attention.. perhaps she's a showerer, with all that stress... she could completely over look it. You would be surprised at what she's forgetting right now... BOOKS.. inspirational books.. finding God, meditative insights, theories, quotes - "it too shall pass"... taken from the Bible(not sure the exact location) ...comfort thoughts. A gift card!.. to a clothing store.. the mall? somewhere nice.. where she can buy herself a new outfit.. something that man doesn't know.. something he hasn't seen her in. A new her... And give her tea bags.. for hot tea. Try the celestial seasonings one.. They have a sample pack that's got different calming chamomile.. stressing/relaxing .. peppermint sleepy time teas.. they are all wonderful tasting teas and tell her to drink them, they will warm her heart! ...Literally .. to sit... in the dark.. light a candle.. drink her tea.. her wine.. to go take her bath.. and to PRAY! ...............Because she is NOT alone.

Hollywood Gift Basket..?

For Christmas my family has the tradition of having a gift basket contest. Well this year the youngest of the family get to make a basket and your basket is going to be the grand prize because we are also having a cookie contest. Anyways our basket theme is Hollywood and im not quite shore what to put in it. Any ideas........?
--------------------
Hollywood video gift-cards if you have those stores where you live. Cameras. People in Hollywood constantly are getting their picture taken. If you're on a budget then get the throw-away kind. A movie or two with a popular actor or actress. Movie tickets. A gift-card for the consession stand at the movie theater. Sunglasses. The type that can be for both genders since you're unsure of who will be getting the basket. People in Hollywood always are fashionable. Magazines with the most popular stars in Hollywood. Money. Hollywood people are usually rich as can be. Go and get $2 bills, since they're more rare. Put a few of those in there. Good luck!

How to make my own gift hamper for a friend?

I have a friend who's turning 14 next week and I want to make her a gift hamper. I will put a selection of products, bath stuff, sweets, etc in the basket to make it special. Can you give me any ideas for the hamper? Plus, where do I get the little wicker basket? Thanks!
--------------------
Charlene is right. A lot of the dollar stores have a good selection but Micheals is another place to look. Add a craft kit to the hamper . If your friend likes jewellry or knitting etc, a kit has everything you need all in one package. There are some great crossword puzzles around now too. Here is a link to marymaxim so you can browse their catalogue to see what is available. You sound like a caring friend.

Where do I begin? I want to leave my job and start a few home businesses.?

I would like to do gift baskets full time, day care for a few kids and graphic design. I hate my current job and I'm ready to ditch it, but I know I can't do that just yet. Help!
--------------------
Wow, one thing at a time please? lol. It most certainly is a good idea to start your own business, but you definitely have to take a lot of factors into consideration. Can you do without the security of a regular paying job? Can you multitask? Manage your finances, marketing, "operations", etc... all by yourself? Or can you afford to hire someone to do it for you? Also, do you seriously think U can manage a day care center, gift baskets and graphic design all at the same time? If the answer to all the above questions is yes, then yep, you should go ahead and venture into the world of being your own boss. Don't let me scare you off the path of self reliance, I just feel you need to give it a really good thought before you decide to jump into it. Also about starting all three things at once? Don't you think its like biting off more than you can chew? If I were you I'd take things one step at a time. Do some market research, find out if there is a good demand for gift baskets, of if there are a lot of busy parents around who'd want to leave their kids with you, or if you can find enough clients for your graphic designing services. Only then should you consider leaving your job. Once you have decided that you do want to leave your job and that whatever venture you have decided to pursue is financially viable, you can seek help from various small business associations to help you get your feet on the ground. One good site to look for them is www.entrepreneur.com. I hope that helped you.

baby gift / baby shower gift? need new ideas?

im looking for a new idea of what to make for a baby gift for a shower. ive done a nappy cake, bunch of socks and baby clothes (bunch of flowers) and gift baskets/hampers. has anyone got any other ideas of what i can do. i enjoyed making the sock bouquets... is there anything i can do similar but in a different shape! i like unusual so all ideas welcome
--------------------
my girlfriend bought a bunch of cloths for my daughter and put them on a cloths line with cloths pins and then laid them in a tall hamper with a note on the end of the line that said "pull slowly" It was amazing! She went way over board and the line stretched about 50 feet long. It was the hit of our shower. So our gift was a cute pink hamper and a ton of cloths. I am not a fan of the diaper cakes because we didn't like the diapers and I ended up not using them at all.

how many days should i wait for italy shipping?

My boyfriend lives in Italy and he is sending a gift basket. How many days does it take to send something from Rome Italy to Boston, MA USA?
--------------------
If it is something he is actually mailing in Italy, it depends on how he ships it. If he uses surface mail it could take anywhere from 2 weeks to 12 weeks. If he uses air mail then about 2 weeks would be a typical time frame. If he uses in international priority shipping it could be as quickly as two days. If it is a gift basket that he is ordering from Italy, but through a US company, it might be only a few hours.
