Reception Edible Favors...help?

I have decided to go with edible favors. My family makes banging mint cookies, but they are chocolate covered. Our wedding is in early September. Will we have to worry about messy chocolate or will they be ok b/c they are not in direct heat/light. Our reception is half outside/ half inside. The gift baskets will be inside w/ cookies, brownies and anything else I can shove in there to eat!
--------------------
Sounds wonderful, and if they are kept inside you shouldn't have any problems.

Anybody compared Inaugurations of Bush, Clinton, Obama?

1. Outgoing President George W. Bush quietly boards his helicopter and leaves for Texas , commenting only: "Today is not about me. Today is a historical day for our nation and people." Eight years ago : 1. Outgoing President Bill Clinton schedules two separate radio addresses to the nation, and organizes a public farewell speech/ rally in downtown Washington D.C. scheduled to directly conflict with incoming President Bush's inauguration ceremony. ------------------------ 2. President Bush leaves office without issuing a single Presidential pardon, only granting a commutation of sentence to two former border patrol agents convicted of shooting a convicted drug smuggler. He does not grant any type of clemency to Scooter Libby or any other former political aide, ally, or business partner. Eight years ago : 2. President Clinton issues 140 pardons and several commutations of sentence on his final day in office. Included in these are: billionaire financier, convicted tax evader, and leading Democratic campaign contributor Marc Rich; Whitewater scandal figure Susan McDougal; Congressional Post Office Scandal figure and former Democratic Congressman Dan Rostenkowski; convicted bank fraud, sexual assault and child porn perpetrator and former Democratic Congressman Melvin Reynolds; and convicted drug felon Roger Clinton, the President's half-brother. ------------------------ 3. The Bush daughters leave gift baskets in the White House bedrooms for the Obama daughters, containing flowers, candy, stuffed animals, DVD's and CD's, and heartfelt notes of encouragement and advice for the young girls on how to prepare for their new lives in the White House. Eight years ago : 3. Clinton and Gore staffers rip computer wires and electrical outlets from the White House walls, stuff piles of notebook papers into the White House toilets, systematically remove the letter "W" from every computer key-pad in the entire White House, and damage several thousand dollars worth of furniture in the White House master bedroom. ------------------------ Headlines 4 Years Ago: "Republicans spending $42 million on inauguration while troops Die in unarmored Humvees" "Bush extravagance exceeds any reason during tough economic times" "Fat cats get their $42 million inauguration party, Ordinary Americans get the shaft" Headlines Today: "Historic Obama Inauguration will cost only $170 million" "Obama Spends $170 million on inauguration; America Needs A Big Party" "Everyman Obama shows America how to celebrate" "Citibank executives contribute $8 million to Obama Inauguration"

Well done question! I appreciate people like you who take the time to show the difference between the classy republicans and the low life democrats. Thank you.

What to name my diaper cake business?

I'm starting a home-based business making diaper cakes, baby gift baskets, baby sock bouquets, etc. I'm at a loss as to what I should call my business. I don't want to be generic with "Janelle's Diaper Cakes". I would like the name to be easily memorized and catchy. Thanks in advance for your input!!
--------------------
I really like one of the answers above me with the whole sugar bottoms. I'd add Baby Sugar Bottoms to it just so people will somewhat know. Babycakes is really nice too.

Why Call It A "Card Party" When There Is No Card Playing Or Gambling?

My daughter's high school recently held a fundraiser event; a "card party". I had gotten some of my husband's friends to come along who are all big gamblers and they looked forward to the night out. However, when we got to the event there was no card playing, no gambling; not even bingo nothing. The event was only for raffles where you pay to enter to win gift baskets. The men got pissed and felt duped and that they didn't come for this. So I ask why call it a "card party" where there is no card playing?
--------------------
Couldn't agree with you more! I play bingo online all the time and im not even a housewife. LOL..http://www.bingohouse.com its AWESOME!! i play all the time! ahahh yeahh yeaahhahaa

I am going on exchange trip to mexico, staying with 2 families, what should i get for house warming gifts?

At my school, we have an exchange program, where kids come from mexico city to spend time with us in the U.S. So anyway, they spent 10 days here and we had lots of fun in NYC. So now, also as part of the exchange program, i am spending 10 days with them. (I will be spending five days at each girls house) So anyway, obviously i need to bring a housewarming gift to each family. Initially i though i would bring them each a victoria secret gift basket, (with like lotions lip gloss and stuff) but the thing is, they both brought stuff for me and my little sister. However, one of my exchange students is one of five, and the other has a little sister. If i bring everyone presents, i will not have room for my luggage. So what i want to do is bring each of them (my two exchange students a gift) and bring something else for the rest of the family any ideas???? Guys i really need to find an answer cause i don't want to bring a stupid gift. I am looking for the best answer

How does this sound for a gift for me to give my Bridesmaid’s?

I am trying to figure out my Gifts to my Bridesmaid's so I can start budgeting for it. I don't want to go the jewelry route (any wedding Jewelry I have gotten I have hated), I doubt my girls will want something with the date on it, and big monogrammed bags will only be cared for by one or two of the 5 of them. So here is my Idea: A decent yet inexpensive Wicker basket from a craft store with ribbon in the wedding colors on the handles. In the basket I will put a bottle of wine from the Fingerlakes region of New York (That is where my FH is from), a small Penn State momento (That is where I am from) and a pair of cute black flip flops for them to change into for the reception if they don't want to wear their heels anymore. Then I might fill it in a bit with candy. Oh! And my 14 year old sister would be getting sparkling grape juice and NOT wine lol Does this sound like something you would enjoy? I know its something I would prefer over jewelry. And they all drink wine (Except the 14 year old) What do you think?
--------------------
I really like the concept, but I disagree with the content. Remember, this is a gift for THEM, who cares what college you attended. The wine idea is cute, but too big and cumbersome perhaps. Candy? These are grown women we are talking about. Like the flip flops idea. Make those nice flip flops I would give them a $50 Sephora gift certificate and save your self time and money. Mismatched odd and ends are not going to be appreciated. Something that they can use will be. Good luck PS/ Jayne, make it then Victorias secret Gift card. All women love those and you cannot go wrong. When I got married, I gave a basket full of bath and body works lotions and potions, VS make up, expensive VS powder etc. and I regret it. It didn't occur to me that perhaps they didn't care about that brand or the scent that I chose. I wish that I could go back in time and give them a gift card instead. Good luck and congrats!!! ETA2/ Love the local truffles idea : ) I would give them the the truffles, the flips and a $25 GC to VS, that would be useful, personal and a treat for them. For the minor, a gift card to GAP, Hollister or American Eagle, Target or whatever kids like to shop nowadays. Good job ; ).

Any suggestions for a BFF's 17th B-Day Present?

Hey guys! I've been looking all over for something for my BFF. We are really close but lately she's been kinda weird and her B-day is at the end of the week so I need help finding something fast. I was thinking of going by her house to drop it off this friday and then maybe take her out for lunch after I finish work. If you guys could give me some suggestions, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks! *** I don't want to get her a gift card cuz, to me that seems rather impersonal. I was thinking of just getting a couple of things from thebody shopp and such and just wrapping it up in a gift basket but I dunnoe! I am really frustrated. I don't see her too alot so I want to get her something really nice. I don't really care about the money. I'm willing to spend about 70 or 80 bucks. Plz help
--------------------
If you are willing to spend $100 you could get her jewelery. Some necklace, gold bracelet, or ring. Go to Kohls or Department store and check out their jewelry. they have fun, young and modern things, that won't look like it's your mom's or grandmom's jewelery. My BFF got me a daisy necklace with a tiny diamond in the middle, when I turned 18. I loved it, and it was nice to see that my BFF didn't spend 50 bucks on little gifts that aren't so sentimental. i felt so special that she thought more of me to get something special.

For Secret Santa, I drew the name of my Mormon friend. I'm putting together a gift basket of marshmallows, Rice Krispie treats, and some other little gifts for her. I was also going to include packets of hot cocoa, but I'm not sure if cocoa is something Mormons are not supposed to drink? Just wondering. Thanks.

Birthday Gift ideas for a 21 year old?

For a male who I've been casually dating for three months. I was thinking engraved shot glasses? And then engraving something like "Alcoholic: Est. Dec 12, 2009", is that lame? Or should I just get regular shot glasses? Should I get him a "survivors" giftbasket, and fill it with booze, shot glasses, tylenol, cologne, etc? If so, what else should I put in the basket? Does anyone else have any other creative/neat/fun ideas? I guess this was like nine questions, sorry, but your help is greatly appreciated! *Another note, my budget is not so great right now (as for everyone else and their mom I'm sure), so I want to stray away from really expensive gifts. Thanks again!
--------------------
i think the shot glass idea is hilarious .. ahah i would love that for my 21st haha give him his favourite booze and maybe some cologne ? not too expensive tho .. if you guys arent exactly full on dating .. or maybe not the cologne at all ? make him a cute card and you are doneee im 20 and i would like that gift ! lol .. i live in canada so im legaaaal lol

There's about 5 so I want to put together a basket. i was thinking pens, pencils, mints...what else?
--------------------
Chocolates, post-it notes, maybe a few mini bottles of nail polish, scented tealight candles, bubble bath, cute socks, hand lotions, coffees and teas..... I always wrap tulle around the basket when it is done and tie it up with ribbon to make it really pretty.

Need a short Irish Love poem.?

My husband and I are celebrating our anniversary soon and are taking a vacation to a romantic, special spot. I am looking for an Irish love poem to personalize some glasses that I will put in a gift basket with snacks, wine, candles, etc. I can have up to six lines of text.
--------------------
The famous Irish tenor John McCormack sang this song written by an English poet Ben Johnson "Drink to me, only, with thine eyes, And I will pledge with mine ; Or leave a kiss but in the cup, And I'll not look for wine." or Wine comes in at the mouth And love comes in at the eye; That's all we shall know for truth Before we grow old and die. William Butler Yeats 1865 - 1939 The Green Helmet and Other Poems [1910], A Drinking Song or I'm only a beer teetotaler, not a champagne teetotaler. I don't like beer. George Bernard Shaw 1856 - 1950 Candida [1898], act III

What should I pick?

My friend's birthday is a week after Thanksgiving and I'm starting to freak about what to get her. My brother knows the owner of this website, http://www.blackriverbaskets.com and I was thinking about ordering her a gift basket.... I'm not sure which one would be best though. She's 24 and just graduated college last spring. Please help me!
--------------------
gift baskets look nice but are a usually filled with mediocre crap.

please help me?

so I want to get my brother some kind of men's gift basket for christmas. Do you know any stores that sell anything like that. Or anywhere that I can make my own.
--------------------
I would do it myself. Buy a basket and then pick out things he loves. His favorite aftershave..Cd's, DVD's, food items, etc. That way you can customize it to him.

yahoo mail sucks?

why cant i access my yahoo mail?why has it been this way for 3 HOURS??? Why hasnt a representative from yahoo stopped by my house to personally apologize and give me a gift basket and 30 million dollars wich still wont compensate me since they obviously cant turn back time? Why isnt there a button on the yahoo page that runs 400,000,000 volts of electricity through anyone who works for yahoo?
--------------------
I think the problem is with Yahoo! Mail Beta. I was having the same problem today. I am using Firefox 2.0 and was not able to log into Yahoo! Mail Beta. I was just getting a bad connection page. I even tried using different computers. Finally I tried logging into Yahoo! Mail and got the error page. I simply typed in that same window's address bar yahoomail.com. Since I was already logged into Yahoo! it took me to the "Oops!" page saying that my computer was not able to handle Yahoo! Mail Beta and gave me the option to use standard Yahoo! Mail. Keep trying this until you are able to get into Yahoo! Mail. I think the problem is with Beta and not Yahoo! Mail itself. If you have the Opera Web Browser you should try and use it since it is not compatible with Beta and you should automatically be pushed to the "Oops!" page. I was also able to access my email from my phone's web browser and Yahoo! Go. You can also access the mobile phone version of Yahoo! Mail until the problem is fixed. http://us.m.yahoo.com

How to ask for sponsorships?

I have been asked by my company to get sponsorships /donations, gift cards, gift certificates from local companies around town for an annual conference my company attends. The reason for the donations is for a gift basket for a silent auction at the conference and the money raised goes into our organization which is a local no for profit company in economic development. I have no idea how to do this, every letter i have drafted i think sounds dumb. Does anyone have any sample letters to help me out? So pretty much I want to tell them who we are, what we do we are seeking , gift cards, gift certificates , as well i will be asking some of the local hotels for a two night stay at a discount or as a gift certificate, for this silent auction and hope really heard they help haha. Thank you
--------------------
Maybe you should go without the letters, and go in person, look professional, and add a more personal approach. That way you can be sure they at least hear what you're about instead of just discarding the letter.

Help! College snafu!?

I have been accepted at Cal and UNC. Cal used a self-reported transcript on which I lied about my arts credit. I believe they require a full year or one credit, I have half but conveniently "extended" my half (said i took two semesters, not one) to a full as it was self reported. They require an official final transcript by July 15th. I am worried that they will cancel admittance upon seeing that. If they do cancel my admittance, i'm afraid I will not be able to attend college because it will be to late to enroll at UNC. The alternative is for me to go ahead and enroll at UNC, with the nice gift-basket (money, programs) that are willing to give me. This would be $300 total that includes intent to register and housing deposit. The issue I have with this route is that in case Cal does not find out or does not care and I attend, UNC will have wasted many resources (not to mention I will be $300 poorer). I really want to attend Cal. Anybody have any advice (NOT CRITICISMS)?
--------------------
You should contact the admissions office. If you are up front with them, they may like your honesty and let you stay. They will have the option of canceling your admission when your official transcript arrives and they discover that you lied to them about your academic credit. Your best bet is to write them a heartfelt letter about why you did what you did and if given the chance how you will be an excellent addition to the Cal community. Tell them about what you will do as a student to show them that you are worthy of admission.

Would you rather........?

recieve a practical gift or a thoughtful one? My fiance's 26th birthday is coming up. I was either going to get him a Burberry shirt and a new wallet. Or make a gift basket for him. He has been stressed lately and I wanted to make up a basket for relaxation-- a t-shirt of his favorite band, lounge pants, bottle of wine and an invitation for me to cook him a romantic dinner, men's shampoo, his favorite candies, coupon for a massage, etc. He's such a thoughtful gift giver and this is the first time we've given gifts as a soon-to-be married couple. I want him to like it but I'm stumped. What do you think he would prefer?

What do you think of this for a baby shower? TEN POINTS!!!?

In the invitations we thought a putting a lil note with a picture of a great gift basket full of goodies, candles, bubble bath, incense etc.. and the note will say something like if you bring a pack of diapers or wipes in addition to your gift you will recieve a raffle ticket to win the prize.....someone told us the mom to be ending up with all her gifts PLUS extra diapers and wipes....is this a good idea to you? I think it is..and it wont be a crappy gift basket but totalling over like 30 bucks to make it worth buying an extra pack of diapers.
--------------------
I like this idea - the only change I would make would be to specify the brand of diapers and wipes the mom plans on using. Becuase some people may go out and buy a pack of diapers from the dollar store just for a raffle ticket!
