I ask because I don't eevn know where to start. I have baked several cheesecakes that people said were good. I asked if they would buy them, and they said yes (of course they may have been lying). I want to make things like homemade pralines and fudge and send samples to local businesses like gift shops, gift basket companies, etc. Do you think this is the right path? What do you suggest?

Of course, if there are no red lights, go for your dream! Now, I don't know much about bakery business, but running it on-line seems an important aspect here. Talk to as many people as possible about your idea. Explain how it is going to work, listen to the comments, questions ans suggestions. You may get valuable feedback about how to set up your business model. Competitors (?) - check out how they are doing. As regards the business plan, do not waste your time with this issue right now. Just prepare the business model in your head. Of course, you may need to test and plot some financials in order to find out additional financing need, sales plan, expense budgets. Just pick up a free online business plan software and play with numbers a bit. You need a full scale, formalized business plan only when going to bankers.
