To greet the student we are hosting, i would like to give her a gift basket of little things that are unique to AMerica. Nothing real expensive, just a bunch of things to fill a basket. Suggestions?

Don't put too much energy into this - your house is no hotel. Just take a couple of different mini chocolate bars and some chips and some jelly beans. That way, your guest has something to eat in her room (which is a practical situation) and she can taste a lot of different things in a short time, so that she can decide which things to buy and bring home to her friends. That said, American chocolate does taste like crap...... ;-) ....but Three Musketeers, 100 Grand, and Nestlé Crunch are quite good.
