I am visiting a family friend in Argentina and I would like to bring a gift, does anyone know of custom regulations that would prohibit bringing in types of specialty food or wine basket from the US?

From my experience, as long as you are bringing wine in your suitcase and not in your carry-on, you should be okay. I don't know if you are talking about few bottles or a large stock but I never had a problem. If you bring food, make sure it isn't meat, fruit or nuts. Cookies, cakes or crackers & cheese are okay.
