Valentines gift for kids. Is it necessary in this day of hardships?

There seems to be an occasion for EVERYTHING! My daughter is 2 and happy to just be near me. My sister spoils her kids and gives them gift for every occasion even if it's her last dollar. I'm a little more budget minded than her. For Valentines Day I plan to make cupcakes for my small family of 3 and go to a nice dinner. I've already told my husband of 7 years that he doesn't need to buy me flowers which has been the norm for several years now. It saves money.. plus I can never keep them alive more than a few days. There won't be any gift exchanging between us.. we usually save the gifts for mother's day, father's day, birthdays, and christmas. So what I'm trying to get at is after Valentines is Easter which is another holiday of spending money on toys, baskets, candies, dresses and eggs. Is it really necessary for Valentines Day? Will I be the only "uncool" mom who won't give her poor kid a gift.

For a two year old, she'll be thrilled to just have a yummy cupcake or two, and none of her little friends or their parents will critisize you, in fact, they may even envy your cooking efforts.~ Don't worry about being an ''uncool'' mom over a holiday. I'm still a kid and in my books a mom is amazing as long as she listens to me when I need to talk to somebody and stands up for me when I'm being wronged. :3
