One of my respected college instructors just informed us that his grandfather passed away Wednesday. We spoke of his grandfather in class before he passed and I'd like to give my instructor a small sympathy gift. I don't like the idea of fruit baskets or flowers, but I think a card is too insignificant. Can anyone think of something else I might be able to give him?

What did you discuss about the grandfather? Was there something special in the stories discussed you can pick on? For instance, let's say that you discussed something about a trip to Oregon that he and his grandfather went on. Perhaps you can get a framed photo of Oregon as a memory for your instructor. Or if you discussed poetry, if he was in WW II, perhaps a book that will trigger fond memories of his grandfather. I think that would be something personal from you and the class, and not as insignificant as a basket of fruit or flowers. Although I love those too! I think it's pretty darned special of you to think to do this. This question gave me a warm, happy feeling that there ARE good people out there! Thank YOU!
