I need ideas for a "Welcome to the USA" basket/gift for a foreign exchange student coming from Spain. I was thinking of sticking a US flag as a decoration in there, but other than that, I have no other ideas. She comes in less than a week!

A book about our national parks (like a National Geographic one with cool pictures); a spanish/english dictionary; anything unique from your local area (like I'm from the UP of MI, so I'd put in some fudge, a cheesy t-shirt, gift certificates for pasties, a UP bumper sticker ("say yah to duh u.p. eh?"), etc. Local map and direction to the best place for espresso in town. Movie gift certificates or gift certificate to anything local that's interesting to do (like a mine tour up here, or fishing on the great lakes, etc.) Just think of anything that's different from Spain about your area and go with it.
