My first cousin has been sort of outcast from my family. She has treated my grandparents terribly as well as my uncles. She has also been horrible to me as well & has had little to do with me the last 30 years except when she asked me to be a bridesmaid in her wedding 3 years ago (I still don't know why). Recently, she expressed to my grandmother that she wanted to be a part of the family & that she wanted her baby to know all of us. Against my better judgment, I invited her to my daughters first birthday last weekend. She & her brother told me they could not attend. My stepsister's daughters first birthday was this evening, & while she was not able to attend this either, my cousin, her husband, her brother (my other cousin), & his girlfriend sent a beautiful gift basket full of expensive items. They didn't even send my daughter a card. My cousin & stepsister have no relationship, so I feel this was a deliberate slam against me & my daughter by my cousins. Earlier in the day, before my nieces party, my cousin emailed me photos of her daughter & I'm tempted to respond with some pretty harsh words. I feel very badly that my cousin & her family would go out of their way to be so generous to my step sisters daughter but not feel my daughter is even worth acknowledging. Do you think I should confront her on this or just leave it alone?

Don't bother with confronting her. You're better off without that thorn in your side.
