I am a Christian, and I have always wondered but never really asked: why do we get gifts on Easter? Such as, baskets, chocolate bunnies, eggs... what do these have to do with the main point of the holiday?
--------------------
Those are social customs. It's like asking why we eat dinner after church on Sunday, or why we like to drink eggnog on Christmas. Many cultures do not hand out candy on Easter - that just happens to be the custom in part of the world. I do think it's funny when people call these customs "pagan." As I recall, the pagans never venerated a magic bunny who dispensed candy every spring. Oh, I see - now the lunar calendar is a pagan religious observance.
