What are some good ideas for a gift basket?

I'm about to be a foreign exchange student and I would really love to thank the person who made that possible with a gift basket of assorted baked goods. I had the idea of some mini banana breads, some cookies and maybe some individually wrapped brownies. Does anyone have any other suggestions that I can put in it? I'd really like to make it special and home-made. Thanks!

What a wonderful opportunity for you! Congrats :D...and I'm assuming the person who helped to make this possible is nearby where you live in your area and NOT overseas..;)... The baked goods idea is great...I'd start out with a good sized basket (to allow for room)...add a fresh potted plant in there to one side. The other side fill with the baked goodies, adding the preferred choice of beverage for the recipient next to the plant. And then add a nice coffee mug (or tea cup if that is their favorite). Weave a nice ribbon around the basket if no handle and tie a bow in the middle. If it has a handle, weave ribbon around the handle and tie bow where it meets basket. A nice coffeecake would work...here's a great recipe: Preheat oven to 350^ F 2 cups flour 1 tsp. baking soda 2 tsp baking powder Wet: 1 cup soft butter 3/4 cup sugar....beat these 2 together for 2 min. Then add 1/2 cup dry mixture to this along with 3 eggs, 1 cup sour cream and 2 tsp. vanilla. Grease Bundt pan...dust with flour and add batter; Now make the "swirl" mixture: 1 Tab. warm water 2 Tab melted butter 1 tsp. instant coffee 3 tsp sugar.........MIX all and drizzle over batter using butter knife to swirl into batter Make Crumb topping: 1/2 cup brown sugar 1/4 cup butter 1/2 Tab. instant coffee......MIX into coarse crumbs, sprinkle all over cake BAKE 40 minutes...(check at 35 minutes)....When done....cooled, dust with powdered sugar. (If you can't seem to arrange everything, you can always cut the cake into thickish slices and wrap individually for ease in presentation). Best of luck to you :D!
