Is opening up a store a good idea?

I would like, within the next few years, to open up my own "seasonal" store. In spring I would sell things such as flowers, flower boxes, vases, etc. In summer I would also sell flowers, and also things such as sprinklers and water tubes. In fall, I would grow and sell my own pumpkins, sell Halloween costumes, and of course decorations. In winter, I would sell sleds, Christmas trees, decorations, Christmas lights, etc… On top of all this, the business would sell gift baskets of all types. Fruit baskets, gifts for dad, gifts for young girl, Halloween basket, hot chocolate basket, and of course many many more. Anyway, everyone always tells me I have a knack for giving and putting gifts together and also for decorating. However, at the same time no one thinks it is a good idea to open a store because they feel a store like this would be unsuccessful and feel no one would be interested in going to a store like this. But I disagree, there is a store similar to this near me (minus the gift baskets) and the parking lot is always packed. So… my question is… Would you be interested in a store like this or would you pass it by? Thanks.

I would love it and I could spend all day in that type of shop , but like the other posters are saying it may not be the right time . You could do this from home to start with , your over heads will be a lot less , maybe you could start in a shed or garage . If you are good with computers you could start a simple website (we used Fasthost ), it was very quick ,easy and cheap, but we generate a good income from ours . As long as you have somewhere to store you goods it would be easy to get up and running , you may find that you dont want the hassle of a shop if your website is a success ,good luck.
