Do you think this is rude or inconsiderate?

My husband and I like sending nice gifts to his 5 yr old daughter who lives out of state. His daughters mother doesn't really have any money, lives in a trailer, and while she does the best that she can, she certainly does not have the means to spoil her daughter. Do you think it is rude or inconsiderate for us to send his daughter nice gifts now and then? For example I just went shopping for her Easter Basket (which I am making myself). I bought clothes, movies, books and toys and when all was said and done, had spent $200 on it. I am sure it will be much nicer than whatever her mother gets her but we enjoy spoiling her. Is what we are doing wrong?

Why not ask mom to tell her it's from the Easter Bunny. A child being happy in the end is all that matters. When she is an adult she will appreciate the respect shown to her and mom. You can continue to buy her expensive gifts. But use tact and good judgment. Afterall it is not necessary to be recognized for good deeds. And by the way.....your doing a good job! :-)
