Is this rude or inconsiderate?

My husband and I like sending nice gifts to his 5 yr old daughter who lives out of state. His daughters mother doesn't really have any money, lives in a trailer, and while she does the best that she can, she certainly does not have the means to spoil her daughter. Do you think it is rude or inconsiderate for us to send his daughter nice gifts now and then? For example I just went shopping for her Easter Basket (which I am making myself). I bought clothes, movies, books and toys and when all was said and done, had spent $200 on it. I am sure it will be much nicer than whatever her mother gets her but we enjoy spoiling her. Is what we are doing wrong?

No, not at all. I would not call it spoiling her, but rather buying her gifts for her birthday and Christmas. Plus, when you think about it. How can you spoil a child who doesn't have a lot? Her mother probably clothes her, but she probably is limited on her shirts, pants, etc. Clothes aren't spoiling, but a necessity. The same with books, those are important for her educational development. You are fine!!! You seem like a nice step-mother; continue to help out your step-daughter. I'm sure she's grateful for the gifts.
