Why do you tell your children that Santa, etc is real?

Now, I understand there is both sides to this, but I want to hear more opinions on it. Heck, maybe one of you will change my mind but so far, this is how I stand. Of course, children should have imagination but shouldn't they come up with this on their own? Why force them to believe a bunny gives them candy, or a fat guy brings them presents, or a fairy gives them cash for losing a tooth? I'm not trying to be cynical or anything, but I guess I'm just not grasping the point. Either way, a kids tooth is going to fall out, I'm going to give my children christmas gifts and easter baskets, why tell them someone else is doing it?

I'm the same way. I take the credit for everything I give my son. He will know that I am giving him Christmas presents & Easter baskets and that I am giving him money for his teeth. I choose to put more emphasis on the real meaning of Christmas & Easter.. I don't want Christmas & Easter to become too "commercial" for my children. However, I do understand & respect why some parents choose to indulge in Santa Claus, Tooth Fairy & the Easter Bunny... it's just for fun. To each his own:)
