Do I have to attend the viewing/wake?

A co-workers mother passed away and the viewing/wake is tonight. Most of my other co-workers are attending, however I don't feel I should be pressured to go. I have never gotten along with this particular coworker, nor do i feel especially sympathetic for him. I feel that a person should attend the wake for two reasons, either to pay respects to the person who has died or to the family of the dead. My father passed away 5 years ago, and this co worked didn't even say I'm sorry, or my condolences. Am i holding too much of a grudge? Should I suck it up and show my face? Also, the office sent flowers to the funeral home but others want to take up a collection to send him a gift basket to just his house, even though he has multiple siblings. I don't feel obligated to chip in, my family didn't get anything when my father died. Just in case the question comes up, I've been working here for 10 years and the coworker for 12.

If you don't feel like going, don't go. You weren't close to this co-worker and she didn't show her sympathy when it was you who had a deceased family member. Don't feel obligated to because most of your co-workers are going. You're an individual. It'll be worse if you went for the wrong reasons.
