I was invited to an anniversary party. No gifts please was on the invitation, but there will be a basket for cards. It was also stated the couple will be going on a vacation after the party. Is this a hint for money?

Money is expected and I think you should with regard to your income be generous. Indeed for them to state no gifts but a basket for cards was a disguise for solicitation. That reflects on them - if you don't put any money in the card it reflects on you. I don't know if it this is a good thing or not but any time I give a card money is enclosed, it's expected. When I receive a card it's the same thing all over again.
