Hi! First off, thanks for taking the time to read and answer the question. My name is Lara and I am a 14 year old Freshman looking to make some money! I live on a farm and during the Fall we have a pumpkin patch, and during the spring we have a flowering basket market. My mom has given me the okay to have a little Gift shop to sell some crafts to make some extra money. Problem is I have no idea what crafts to make and sell. I would like some Halloween/Fall themed and Some mothers day/spring themes but some general crafts would be great too. I have money to spend on supplies, but I would like to make some profit. Thanks so much to anyone who helps me out!! Links would be great. Thanks again. -Lara

You express yourself very well. Thanks for being clear. Do you sew? If so (snicker), can you make simple totebags? With the current "anti-plastic-bag" campaign on, fabric grocery bags are in good demand. You can use fabric in any color to go with any theme. If you need a "pattern," email me and I'll send you instructions on how to make them. Half-aprons (adult and kid sizes) are also usually good sellers, as long as the price is reasonable. Plain t-shirts with fancy or cute buttons sewn around the neck are fun, too. Do candles sell well in your area? You can make some really pretty ones fairly easily. You'll need uncolored wax to melt and pour, of course. You'll also need a taper candle just a little shorter than the milk carton. If it's too tall, shave off some of the bottom. It'll never show. Fill a 1/2-gallon paper milk carton with ice cubes, and put the taper candle in the center. Melt the wax and pour it into the milk carton. Reset the taper so it is straight. Let the wax harden and remove the milk carton. You'll have a lovely lacy candle. You may also put a few crayon shavings into the uncolored wax just before pouring. Experiment with that. As to pricing, a good rule of thumb is "cost of supplies times three." That compensates you for your time and creativity. It's only a guideline, of course, but it is a good place from which to start. Hope that helps. These aren't new ideas, but are "classics" for good reason. If you want the simple totebag pattern, email me. Click on my avatar for an email link. I'll need a real email address from you, though. The instructions won't fit into the 1500-character limit on the in-house emails here on Answers.
